Into the Forest discussion

A place to discuss the book. No spoilers.

I'm on hold for this at the library, but the estimated wait is 10 weeks. I've been hearing so many good things about this. It's nice to see a Native American SFF writer getting so much buzz.

I am number six on the hold list. I'm not sure I can get the book while we are actively discussing it. There is only one copy.

I'm #12 with only 2 copies so it'll be awhile. That's somewhere around a 3 month wait - maybe a bit less.

Seems about par for the course lately. I still haven't gotten the current group read books either.

Looks like we'll all be waiting a while then.

Well, I'm one of those nerds who, as soon as I hear about a book I know I HAVE to read as soon as it's out, I check my library (online) weekly to see when it's available for requests. The library had it on order in April. So, thankfully, when I placed my request, I was first in line. It arrived 6/26 and I picked it up on 6/30 - yay!!

I read it and am keeping my mouth shut here. I will say, I brought my copy and was not unhappy.

I am # 17 on 4 copies.

I've finished it today. I wasn't impressed, especially when I found out that to me both the plot and the main protagonists are disappointing.

disappointing characters as in dislikable, or boring? I'm fine with dislikable.

They are cliche. I can live with dislikeable protagonists.

Oh, hmm. That's not good. Once I've read it, we can discuss more! I think I'm still a month or more away from reading it though.

I have this book right now and am SO excited that I'll be getting started!!

I know this book is categorized as YA, but it definitely doesn't read like YA, in my opinion.

I just checked, and the publishers do not have it categorized as YA. It's for adults. I don't know why some people on Goodreads have it tagged as such.

Thanks for letting me know! I was really confused why some were categorizing it as YA instead of as Adult or New Adult, since the story didn't read like YA...? I guess I confused the age category because it was being tagged here on Goodreads as YA.

Personally, though, I think NA (New Adult) fits it best.

I just finished Trail of Lightning. The beginning required patience but once the world was built and the characters constructed, the story flew! I will look forward to reading the next book in the series.

On another note, I agree with previous discussions, it does not read like YA.

I'm halfway through right now. I'm loving the Native American clan magic. I think the dynamics between the main two characters are interesting...but I'll say more in the spoiler thread once I finish. I would be finished already, but I've had a very hectic week.

Sigh! Still waiting for my library book to come!

I somehow missed the email about the book being ready for checkout and now I've been sent to the back of the line. Now I'm #18 on 3 copies.

I was already on the fence about reading this based on what's been said in the spoiler thread so I think I'll just pass on it for now since the group read will be long over by the time my turn rolls around again.

I've started and am liking it so far! That being said it it's definitely typical Urban/Dystopian fantasy, which I too am sick of, however what makes it appealing is the world set in Diné - Navajo and the fact that the author herself Diné.
