I queued this book to read next. Having purchased it when I was mid-read on the The Obstacle Is the Way: The Timeless Art of Turning Trials into Triumph. It didn't look that large either, like it could be read in a day, but I knew that somehow it was dense and should be paced. There is this gamer meme I saw once that was more profound than funny at the time that I saved it. It said something like "If I've learned anything from video games, it is that when you meet enemies, it means you're going in the right direction." Funny but also inspiring for a silly little meme.
However as an IT person my constant meditation we always chant is "Not my circus not my monkeys". It reminds us that sometimes we don't have to walk headlong into endless nonsense, which it counter intuitive for any life long tech person's inward urge "to help". I wanna say I love that more for the reminder for restrain but every now and then it also has this mild schadenfreude effect too when you witness the outcome of someone's bad choices.
That gamer meme is surprisingly wise – it captures something real about resilience and resistance. Obstacles do signal growth, as Ryan Holiday reminds us. And your IT mantra – sounds like something Epictetus would have said. Stoicism helped me find that balance – knowing when to act and when to let go. I recently wrote about the role Stoicism played in my own healing journey. If you're curious, I'd be happy to share more.

Years ago, I was in a serious car accident that changed my life. The impact was intense and healing was a long road. During that time, I returned again and again to Stoic philosophy – as a powerful framework that gave me perspective, discipline, and strength. I ended up writing a book about that healing journey. Happy to continue the conversation – Stoicism has had a profound impact on my life.
