To quote Queen: is this the real life or is it just fantasy? More Than This makes you question everything you think you know about dystopian literature, the line between reality and virtual reality, and what it means to be a person. Ness takes a question asked by many in this computer driven era (what is reality?) and seeks to answer it in a way that keeps you guessing. This easily could’ve been a Matrix knock-off or played to every dystopian trope there is. However, Ness instead focuses on the imperfections of the characters, how the choice of one affects the lives of many to show the reader that reality and humanity are not easily defined.I had no idea what to expect when I started reading this book. Other than knowing it was YA and started with a teen suicide, I was in the dark. I was pleasantly surprised by the way Ness gave you just enough info to want to know more. That just when you thought you knew the answers, a new question was asked.
I rather enjoyed the book and the constant “in the dark” feeling. You never knew more than the characters, not enough to really even guess, and I appreciated that from Ness. I’m left with just one thing to say when contemplating this book: Go in swinging.

Great review! Perfectly said! And, not gonna lie, I thought about that Queen quote a few times myself!
