October Nominations Thread

Was the plan to switch back and forth between classic chunksters and contemporary? If so then I have a nom if our next book is contemporary.
If we are going contemporary for the next book, I would like to nominate A Brief History of Seven Killings by Marlon James. I've had it on my shelf for almost two years now.

This should go to a poll now? I'm not sure how Dianne does this. I could put a poll up for say, 2 days?A Brief History of Seven Killings
Cryptonomicon
I can't create a poll :( Maybe just 'vote' here?
A Brief History of Seven Killings ---- 2
Cryptonomicon ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- 3
It looks like October's book is Cryptonomicon.Would anyone be interested in leading the discussion for this?

Yay Cryptonomicon!
I might lead the discussion. I just want to read the book. Don't know much about it.
Thank you Christopher! (I hope)Its such an odd sounding book! I'll try to get a copy, so far I haven't had any luck. I might have do the 2nd interlibrary loan of the year! So I've got 2 weeks to clear off my slate, not sure I can in time, but I'll try. Don't count me in for sure, I'll just snoop & help you set up threads if you need.
I'm in! I already have the book, now I just need to finish the last 700 pages of Reamde before October. :P
Hey everyone! I'm the guy who is terrible at buddy reads but was just curious as to what was being read. I've read Cryptonomicon. It is very enjoyable, very smart: one just has to admire the author.

Biblio, my library system had one copy. I checked it out but found it unreadable because the print was too close to the inner edges and, since it was a paperback, the font used was too small for me anyway. So I took it back, thought I'd check out some used book stores. But while at the library, I was perusing the shelves and I found a 2nd copy of Cryptonomicon which appeared to be the "big" original hardback. So, I grabbed it and went to check it out. The library didn't have it on their system, didn't know how it even got there, and told me to just take it as it wasn't owned by the library, even though it had library stickers on it. A gift from the universe. Sometimes that just happens! I read it, then donated it back to the library, that seemed only fair. (And, since I've had cataract surgery, I can read tiny print again!)
I'd like to join in for the reading of Cryptonomicon.I would have voted for it if I'd seen the poll, so that makes 4 :)
Our library system only has one copy and it's out, but there were no other reservations, so I reserved it and I hope it will be returned for me before October 1st.
Given that we've only had the two nominations in the past month, and five people are interested in reading Cryptonomicon, I say that we go ahead with Cryptonomicon. Not sure that a poll at this point is going to accomplish much. Just my 2 cents.
