Melissa Has the first episode of Outlander aired anywhere yet? Has anyone seen it?

Opinions? I don't have Starz and can't really get it right now just for this show even though I really wanna see it.

Melanie♥ (meliaann) | 414 comments I watched it today. I have not read the book so can't speak to how well it represents the book.
I'm a bit on the fence about it, but will certainly watch a few more episodes and see how it goes.

I really hope it is gooood.

Xia (xiat) The first episode is free on Starz's youtube page. I haven't read the books, but I enjoyed the first episode.

Kat Morrisey (katmorrisey) | 23 comments I'll be watching it tonight for sure. I haven't been this excited about a tv show in a really long time. It's also the only reason I'm keeping cable. Once the season ends, I'm dropping it. LOL (Will have to resign up next summer for season 2 though. :D)

Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (mckennamuse) | 292 comments I watched it yesterday and there were little things that I picked up on that stood out in the book that they glossed over. (view spoiler)

Anyway, can't have it all when transitioning from book to TV, but I still thought it was very, very good. I'm curious to see what others think.

Cindy C Bennett (cindycbennett) | 440 comments Anytime they take a book that I love and make it into a movie/TV show, I have that excitement and dread mix as I sit down to watch it. I seriously love these books, so I think the dread was actually a little heavier than the excitement. I like the actress playing Claire. I couldn't care less about Frank just because to me he's such a minor part of her life in the first book, but I thought the actor was fine. I'm excited to see him as Randall. Jamie: he's cute, definitely, and charming. In the books I always imagined him much larger than the actor playing him, but I'm hoping he'll be good enough to look past that little quirk in my head. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed they don't ruin him for me.

Michelle T. (chely1217) | 399 comments Watching it on Demand today!!!

Spend all night with a friends daughter watching all the Twilight Saga... yes...35 years old and a Twilight freak (Edward's Team here!!!!)

message 14: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) | 2010 comments I enjoyed it and watched with high expectations. Most of them were met. Claire and Jamie had FANTASTIC chemistry, which can overcome a lot of wrongs (if there are any).

I need to reread the beginning of the book. I forgot about the vase.

In the book I believe she bought the vase but I liked how they used it to start the story.

message 16: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I watched it the other night and thought they did a good job. I've read through book 3 but I'm not a huge fan like some others, but I like the books. I thought the actress playing Claire did a good job and I thought they captured the feel of the books really well. And Jaime was great!

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) | 2010 comments Outlander has been renewed for a second season, who-hoo!!!

message 21: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) | 2010 comments I loved this last episode! I didn't like her witch-imagination sequence (did that happen in the book? Probably in her narrative) but the rest was awesome.

I like listening to Geilles and knowing what I know about her. Laogherie, too. Especially the line "Jamie needs a woman. Leogherie will be a girl until she's 50.)

message 22: by Jonel (new)

Jonel I'm quite taken with the tv series. I've yet to see the most recent episode (joys of my pvr) but can't wait to have the time to watch it. I'm also dying to read the book now.

message 23: by R.C. (new)

R.C. Matthews (rcmatthews) | 271 comments I've watched the first three episode and I'm really enjoying it. I had to admit I wasn't a big fan of the book due to the violence and the writing style. But I was in love in Jamie. I'm hoping the TV series will be better for me because they probably won't go into the detail (violence) that the book did.

So far I really like the TV series. The casting is really great. Claire and Jamie are perfect.

Sonya Heaney Cindy wrote: "Jamie: he's cute, definitely, and charming. In the books I always imagined him much larger than the actor playing him"

The actor is 6'3". The problem is they cast a runway model as Claire, and she's almost as tall as him!

message 25: by Sonya (new)

Sonya Heaney I'm torn on the series. I like some things, and I think the third episode was stronger than the first two (different writer and director).

On the plus side, it looks gorgeous, and there're some really great actors (Sam Heughan as Jamie, Lotte Verbeek as Geillis, Tobias Menzies as Frank and quite a few others). Some of the deviations from the book are actually quite smart.

On the downside, Caitriona Balfe as Claire... she basically had no acting experience before this, and it's showing. She's being outshone by the secondary characters.
Also, some of the problems with pacing and over-telling (rather than showing) in the book are looking even weaker on the screen. It's moving at a glacial pace in a lot of spots. And some of Claire's actions (getting drunk nonstop and getting herself into sticky situations; saying stupid things that make people suspicious) are making her look like an idiot.
Oh, and the historical inaccuracies are grating (married women with their hair out and wearing modern-day knitwear?!).

Apparently the show starts to pick up from the sixth episode. I'm buying the episodes one at a time at the moment, so I'll give it until then to decide how I feel about it. But they really shouldn't have to warn you it's not great until that far in!

message 26: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) | 2010 comments The book was slow to start as well. At the third episode, I started to enjoy it more.

Did anyone see Herself in episode 4?

Phoenix (Online Elf) | 2061 comments I didn't know she appeared in it. Pulling a Hitchcock, eh?

message 28: by Jan (new)

Jan Sonya Heaney wrote: "I'm torn on the series....It's moving at a glacial pace in a lot of spots. \

I agree that it's rather going at a rather slow pace. I had hubby watch Episode 3 with me last night and he was bored, bored, bored. He said it needs to pick up if I expect him to watch it with me.

message 29: by Melanie♥ (new)

Melanie♥ (meliaann) | 414 comments I just watched the most recent episode. It did get off to a slow start but seems to be picking up now with only two episodes left. I'm having a hard time warming up to Claire.

message 30: by Natalia (new)

Natalia (natilia) | 24 comments I can't wait to see the wedding episode, is a fundamental part and I want to see how they will not deny that I want to see Jamie all passionate xD

message 31: by HJ (new)

HJ (hjleonard) | 2 comments I'm enjoying the series for the most part. Catriona is not exactly a perfect fit for Claire, but she's not AWFUL, IMO.

In episode 4, not only was Herself there, but Himself (Ron Moore) also was present. Nicely done, and fairly subtle.

This latest episode (The Garrison) was a bit too drawn out, I'd say.

I will say that they are not doing a great job showing Jamie's humorous/lighthearted side. They missed a great opportunity with the 'sleeping outside her bedroom door' scene. They totally eliminated the part where he explained that anyone ho came across him lying there would think he was 'waiting his turn.' :(

message 32: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) | 2010 comments Black Jack is really good at being sadistic...

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 13013 comments For the most part I'm enjoying it. They are portraying Claire a lot more argumentative than I imagined, yes she was outspoken in the book but she seemed softer and more rounded. Sam wasn't exactly Jamie either but he has won me over, I love how he is playing him boyish but with such strength of character.

I hope they do the wedding night scenes justice. Although I guess nothing could be better than what I have imagined after reading the book...

Jan, you are lucky your husband even attempts watching it with you. Mine would last five minutes and be wandering off.

Phoenix (Online Elf) | 2061 comments Yes, you're definitely lucky, Jan.

message 35: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Haha, its my hubby who is watching it and not me. I tried but I couldn't cope with the scottish accents.

Hubby loves Game of Thrones so when I told him about Outlander I didn't mention the word romance, but told him it was time travelling to Scotland and lots of warriors and epicness etc. He's quite enjoying it, though of course it isn't as good as GoT.

Phoenix (Online Elf) | 2061 comments Oh, you are B.A.D., Sandra. LMBO!

message 37: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) | 2010 comments I thought about having hubby watch it with me, but after watching a few episodes alone, I changed my mind. I don't think he'd enjoy it.

message 38: by R.C. (new)

R.C. Matthews (rcmatthews) | 271 comments My husband always sits next to me reading on his computer while I watch Outlander. And he slowly read less...and watched more. He has watched the entire last two episodes. LOL. We're enjoying the series.

message 39: by Sandra (new)

Sandra The hubby enjoyed the wedding scene etc so much he made me watch it. LOL.

Lovely dress, though I expect it was the fact that she almost came out of the dress during the ceremony, and later that really interested him. hahahahaha

message 40: by R.C. (new)

R.C. Matthews (rcmatthews) | 271 comments LOL Sandra! Yes, the wedding night festivities might have had something to do with it. I'm not complaining. Jamie is a fine specimen of a male - though his back is really, really sad to look at.

message 41: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Yes, amazing effects and such a firm backside *snigger*

message 42: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) | 2010 comments I thought the dress was beautiful but git so poorly!

message 43: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) | 2010 comments *sigh*. FIT so poorly, but loved the reason why when they explained.

message 44: by R.C. (new)

R.C. Matthews (rcmatthews) | 271 comments Yes, the scene with the lawyer at the brothel was entertaining. I liked how they showed flashbacks while they were getting to know each other.

Sandra She breathed fast - as seen by her boobs doing a marathon, up & down, up & down. The hubby was mesmerized. LOL.

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14533 comments Ouch!

Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (mckennamuse) | 292 comments Lol, Sandra!

I should've paid closer attention to my hubby's reaction. I would've smacked him. Then again, I was trying not to swoon over Jamie's glutious maximus-es. I guess fair is fair. Forgive my horrid spelling tonight.
