Yvette Gonzalez The book that I chose to read was Bait by Alex Sanchez. The reason that I chose this book was because it focuses on how people need support and they need someone to be there for them. The main character of this book is Diego, who struggling to control his lashing outs. This book intrigued me right from the beginning because right away you are able to see what Diego is going through at the moment, but it also makes you question many things about what has happened to him, so you just want to keep reading it. The way that the author, Alex Sanchez, described what Diego was doing and the continuous snippets that we get from Diego’s past keeps us hooked and wanting more detail about what has happened to him. For example, when someone brings up Max, Diego’s stepfather who died by committing suicide, Diego tries to stay away from the topic or he tries to remember the good times that he had with him. Also, whenever Max’s name is brought up, negative thoughts are always brought up, making the reader become curious about why Diego has such a bad effect when Max is brought into a conversation. Another reason this book captivated my attention is because it talks about self-harm, which is something that isn’t really discussed in books and ways that people can find help. Another topic that this book focuses on is how people of every age need someone to talk so that they no longer repress their feelings. This was the main reason the book caught my attention because I would expect that everyone has a person to talk to, but this book proved to me that not everyone does. So, it lets the readers know that they should be there for each other and look out for one another. One way that this is shown in the book was when Diego asked to go on probation because all he wanted was someone to talk to so he can let out his past. I would highly recommend this book because it focuses on many topics that are really discussed in books.
