Point System

◈ Books between 160 and 200 pages = 5 points
◈ Books between 201 pages and 300 pages = 10 points
◈ Books between 301 and 400 pages = 20 points
◈ Books between 401 and 500 pages = 40 points
◈ Books between 501 and 650 pages = 60 points
◈ Books between 651 and 800 pages = 80 points
◈ Books over 801 pages = 100 points

◈ BOM bonus:
- Writing a day's worth of discussion questions = 40 points
- Participating in a current BOM (participating in discussion) = 20 points

How a "spell it out" works
Spell out the word(s) using the first letter in the book's title, the first letter in the author's first or last name, or the first letter of a character's first, last, or nick-name, or the first letter of the series name. As always, if the first letter of a title starts with an indefinite or definite article ('A', 'An', 'The', etc.), you may use the first letter of the second word in the title to spell out your chosen word. If you are listening to an audiobook, the first letter in the narrator's first or last name also can be used. We're also allowing for Translators names, as long as the edition you are reading is a translation version.

Themes
We are using holiday themes for the wheel: 2 weeks for Halloween, 2 weeks for Thanksgiving and last 2 weeks for Christmas.

Each wheel will have 24 words matching the corresponding theme, from which 2 would be colours:
- Halloween Colours: Black and Purple
- Thanksgiving Colours: Orange and Brown
- Christmas Colours: Red and Green

Help Save Christmas Mini Challenge

This is an optional mini challenge for our Wheelathon players during week 6 only.

This mini challenge is all about reading different tasks related to the holiday season!

How to play

☃ For each task read you will receive points (as listed)
☃ If you complete all 40 tasks your team will receive Christmas Bonus points
☃ Only books read during week 6 of wheelathon will count for this mini challenge.
☃ The usual book length requirement and other rules for wheelathon apply.
☃Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your wheelathon spell-it-out. They DO need to be different to what you are claiming for your weekly bonuses (for e.g. word as MPG)

Tasks

☂☂Making an elf home ☂☂
Our elves need somewhere safe to sleep once they have finished all of their toy making. Please help build them a house!
1. Make a door by reading a book of 201 pages or less (10 points)
2. Create some windows by reading a book of between 202 and 301 pages (20 points)
3. Time to put up the walls! Read a book with a brown cover that is between 301 and 500 pages (40 points)

4. Lastly we need a roof. Read a book of 501 pages or more with green writing or a green item on the cover (50 points) Eni

Help observe this festival by completing the following tasks:

6. Eat some latkes and sufganiyot by finding a book with the word "flour" in the text (20 points)
7. Play Dreidel by reading a book with "four" in the title (40 points)

☀☀ Australian Summer ☀☀
It's time to start the summer school holidays, swim and celebrate the season with family and friends:
9. Host an end of year BBQ with your mates. Read a book with a BBQ, or BBQ food on the cover (10 points)
10. Read a book by an Australian born author (20 points)
11. Grab your togs and go for a swim. Read a book with a body of water on the cover (e.g. pool, lake, ocean etc.) (40 points)
12. Read a book with a green or gold item or writing on the cover which is set in summer (50 points)

Pack your bags and fly off to see Aunty Flo and Uncle Jack for the holidays!
13. Read a book where the characters get on a plane (10 points)
14. Read a book with a form of transport on the cover (20 points)

16. The countdown is on to get on that flight! Read a book where the page numbers countdown by one. (i.e. 987, 876, 765, 654, 543, 432, 321 or 210) (50 points)

December is full of fun holidays. Today, we toast to the mixed breeds of the world, so raise your water bowls high … because this one’s for the mutts!

Well, our first word is TOMBSTONE, so if some of you are planners (keep in mind that the challenge is little less than 3 weeks away-there is still quite a lot time before it starts) you can start looking for books that could be used for the spell-it-out (rules are in that post ).

Also, we can get extra points for books that have tombstone:
a) in the text
b)in title/series name
c)on the cover
d)as genre (doesn't have to be MPG, but if you click on the Top Shelves, it does have to be on the first page)

NB! we can get extra points once per category, so that means we need only one book for each category AND these books must also work for the spell-it-out.

For the genre, you can find a list of all the available books here, but not all of them have it listed as tombstone in the first page. And in my opinion they are all weird =D

That isn't a very long list. But it does seem like something that wouldn't be used as a tag a bunch.

I would probably use it with my cover item shelves, so it would be more like xcover-tombstone if you were to find that word on my shelves.

Kristel your correct. We only need one for each. It would give us extra points.

So for those planners, if you find any of these books and plan or not planning on reading them and want to share what you found it would be great. I think “The Graveyard Book” has a tombstone on the cover. Not sure if it fits other tasks but I’ll check. 😀

I actually have The Graveyard Book out from library for another Challenge. I can hold to read on the 28th i think.

I really liked the graveyard book. But I like some of Neil gaiman's stories.

I will be away this weekend for a girls' trip, but we are coming back on Sunday. I'll jump in to the challenge Sunday night.

Wish I didn't get carsick reading - I'll be in the car for 5 hours on Sunday and that would be the perfect time to knock out some letters!

Wow you're all planning away. I have to admit I'm more of a as I go reader. The only thing that I'm sure of is that I'll be listening to one of the In Death novels as I'm currently re-listening the entire series. I'm at #38 at this moment, so I'll probably start #39 in the weekend.
I'll see what is needed when we start.
