Barb (barblibrarian1) | 14 comments I think I will shoot for the Miss Fanny Price level this year. If I had picked that for 2018, I would have easily managed. I will post on all of the lower levels as I make my climb.

Lol!!! It won't be me...for the foreseeable future! The climb has been slowed by three heavy March book club tomes (including MP), the one and only tome about my favorite band...etc etc blah blah blah whine! :)

Still ahead of the pack, Sheila! Great going, my friend. Glad you enjoyed Love and Loathing. It was a lot of fun, wasn't it?

You don't have to watch out for me, Sheila. I won't even be close to competing this year! I'm taking a few steps back from social media (including GR) and my obsessive reading and trying to spend more time enjoying activities in RL. My golf game has even progressed to the point where I'm not an embarrassment to my husband out on the links!

Debbie, I am not competing - really. I am sure others will pass me. But I am glad to read that you are enjoying other parts of your life.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1252 comments Enjoy your golf, Debbie. Check in when you can. We enjoy hearing from you.

Sheila, great progress.

message 22: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 769 comments Thank you, Jeanne. There was a time in my life when I also golfed. It took at least five hours for me to play a round of golf so that activity does eat up the hours, also. I never broke 100 although I came very close. My husband is an excellent golfer but we did not mix well on the golf course. I am sure I frustrated him.

message 23: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1252 comments We use to play but hubby isn't able to any longer. He has a bad hip/lower back problems and can't walk very far nor can he stand to swing the club. Back in the day, when we traveled, we would take our clubs with us and play. We had a lot of fun.

Way to go, Sheila!

You had a great period of reading there. That Love and Loathing one has my attention. I'm a sucker for fun titles. :)

message 25: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 633 comments I admit that hubby and I don't always get along well on the golf course. But I do find I enjoy it, and it's nice that it's an activity we can share. Plus, I've developed friendships with some female golfers whose skills are comparable to mine and they don't take the game as seriously as our husbands tend to. It's ALWAYS fun to play with the girls!

Yes, I played with a women's group also. But the club we were members of only allowed the women on the course 2 mornings a week as the men took precedence. We could play in the afternoons but if you had kids and they were coming home from school in the spring or fall you had to be home in midafternoon. Summers you had to hire a babysitter.

Well done for taking that conscious decision, Debbie. It's something I'm trying to do (to a somewhat lesser extent) and it's also coming to the time of year when our rather large garden is shouting for attention as the daylight hours lengthen. I'll still have my audiobooks for that, though!

My Dad tried to get me interested in golf when I was a teenager (I think he might have been trying a bit of matchmaking as his golfing friend had a son the same age as me, who used to play with them!) but it never grabbed my fancy and then I developed my now long standing back problem. When it first happened (I was still in my teens), I was even told not to consider taking up the sport, as it would put too much stress on the problem area.

message 28: by Debbie (last edited Feb 23, 2019 11:18AM) (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 633 comments It's not for everyone. But I love that it's a leisurely outdoor activity. Quiet except for birds (and the "whack" of the club on the ball). It's really nice standing out in the fairway and just looking around at the beauty of nature. Camping and hiking don't have the same appeal for me - I'm not a "roughing it" kinda girl, and I'm absolutely terrified of snakes. Neither does gardening - love the results but hate the work. Golf gives me hours enjoying the outdoors - when it's not frustrating the shit out of me!

93. Between by: withered https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11856933...
“An irrational man's mind is very rapid. It jumps from friendship to coffee, from coffee to marriage in an instant. A love story between two windows.”
