Adamas- Adamas is a heavenly metal given to the Shadowhunters by the Angel Raziel. It is a silver-white translucent metal that glows slightly. It is smooth like glass, but warmer and heavier. It cannot be used by Mundanes and only the Iron Sisters, who use runes unknown to other Shadowhunters, can craft things, steles and seraph blades, from it.

Iron- Iron is toxic to fairies. It is cold to the touch, which was believed to be because of it's magical properties. It is very easy to enchant.

Steel- This iron alloy is not toxic to faeries, though it stays sharp for a long amount of time. Steel is often found making training weapons for Shadowhunters.

Silver- Sliver is one of the only ways to permanently wound a werewolf. A wound from any other metal will simply heal. It is also toxic to vampires and causes pain, headaches, nausea, ect. but it will not kill them. It is a good conductor of magic and is usually used by the fey for weapons, armor, and decorations. Shadowhunters learn to switch between the weight of silver to steel.

Gold- Gold is poisonous to demons and a great magic conductor. It is rarely used for weapons because it is so soft. It is both a symbol of the light of heaven and greed. It is used in sacred and demonic rituals because of this.

Electrum- Electrum is a combination of gold and silver an had been used since ancient Egyptian times. It is rarely used in rituals, but combines the properties of both metals and has less disadvantages.

Copper- Copper is mostly used to intensify other materials. It is often used decoratively for hilts or handles of weapons.

Demon-metal- Demon-metal is resistant to corrosion and is thought to originate in the void. It cannot be found naturally in out universe. It is black and glows with demonic power and is the demonic equivalent to adamas. The wounds it creates are not easily healed by marks and is often used for a demon's weapons or armor and is almost never used by a downworlder or human.

Rowan- Rowan wood is know to have magical properties to ward of demons and is often used to build institutes and arrows for the Nephilim.

Oak- Oak is the "most mundane" wood, but it is strong and often used for wooden weapons (ex: stakes for vampires).
