I definitely would have understood wanting to escape a dull/drab prairie town and been fascinated by the idea of a magical library! The Lake and the Library by S.M. Beiko

i would suggest any books by Marsha Forchuck Skrpryuch for this square. She is a local author that writes historical fiction for middle grade readers. Her latest book Too Young to Escape highlights the bravery and resilience of families escaping Vietnam on boats. I had a girl in my high school class that had been a refugee and wished that I had known more about her experience.
