I think most of us have a love/hate relationship with movies based on books.

My choice is likely going to be The Woman in the Window. It's already on my list to read, and Netflix is releasing a movie next year.

The Nightingale is also becoming a movie, and it is a fantastic book! If you haven't read it yet here's your chance!

What else have you heard about for next year?

I'm going with Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott for this one!

I just saw the trailer for this movie the other day and thought I'd like it...little did I realize it's also a book coming out later this month!

Sara, as of now I'm going with one of the 2 books you mentioned. I dont't keep up with what movies are coming out but those both sound like something I would be interested in. Thank you with being so early posting the new threads for 2019 already!

The Nightingale is a fantastic book! I read it this year and would highly recommend - though it doesn't look like any roles have been cast yet, so not sure if it will be ready for next year?


Will probably go with Death on the Nile, The Woman in the Window or Artemis Fowl.

Popsugar actually has a list for this with 16 books.

I might read The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness since it's already on my to-read list.

It will be easier to deal with this prompt in a few months as movie release dates get fixed.

I think I'm going to read Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott. Saw the coming attraction recently it's about 2 cystic fibrosis patients who fall in love. It comes out in March.

The Nightingale, as others have said, was great but it is a weeper so avoid it if that's not your thing. My mother-in-law passed the copy her friends lent her on to me after they told her they both cried, so she refused to read it. I was determined to get through it without giving in. I failed.

I'll probably go with The Nightingale since it's already on my TBR, but Death on the Nile is also tempting.

I could re-read Little Women and stick with my 'already owned' theme I had for my ATY planning, but I don't really love it enough to want to re-read it right now...

Maybe more options will appear as we get into 2019 though.

Ugh I hate this category and it keeps coming back! Because there are usually no more than a dozen movies made from books in a given year, and I've usually read most of them already. I like it a lot more when they don't restrict it to one year.

BUT I haven't read The Woman in the Window! Also, I've never even heard of the book Motherless Brooklyn, it sounds interesting, so that's my back-up choice.

Feel the same. Don't get why this keeps returning it's not that interesting and as you say it is a very limiting category. Not that many books to choose from.

The new How To Train Your Dragon film is releasing in 2019, so any book from that series would technically count, even though the whole film franchise is in-name-only.

I had no idea they were making it into a movie but Motherless Brooklyn is on my TBR so I'll probably go with that. Thanks!

I have two options :

The Knife of Never Letting Go has been on my list for at least a year but I've heard such great things about the Nightingale...We'll see which one wins out!

Bird Box is going to be out on Netflix in 2019. It's a great psychological thriller. I recently read it in 2 sittings.

Bird Box actually starts at the end of Dec 2018 if you live in the US.

IT chapter 2 releases in September. Pet Sematary releases in April. The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt and Artemis Fowl are both coming out and they have both been on my TBR forever. I’ve also always wanted to read a Hellboy comic and that comes out this year as well.

The Woman in the Window is on the library TBR, so I'll probably go with that.

Excited to see that The Goldfinch is being adapted. I read that for this year's challenge and really liked it. I read Catch-22 as well, which I wasn't crazy about, but I'm interested to see how that plays out on screen.

I'm planning on Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine since I didn't get to it this time around.

I don't think I ever finished Little Women when I was younger, but I am so excited for the movie! Probably because of the cast, and Greta Gerwig directing. I think I'll have to go with the classic.

As many of you have already echoed, The Nightingale is a fantastic book and choice for this prompt. I'm worried I'll be disappointed with the adaptation, but only because I have such high hopes. I'm trusting Kristin lol!

Does anyone know if Netflix are making the second Lara Jean book into a film? I've only read the first one but I liked it enough I'd read another.

I'd recommend Artemis Fowl, I really enjoyed it, I might actually reread it for this category! I've not read Little Women so I might go for that. Or The Nightingale, since you're all recommending it! I've already got IT down for a 2017 prompt.

I just saw in another thread someone said Yes, they are working on it. I LOVED the first movie. Hopefully they'll do a good job with the followup.

I just read The Woman In The Window this summer and liked it okay, I'm excited for the movie. I might just go with The Sun Is Also a Star for this prompt, since it's been on my shelves since the release.

Make sure you check if the film actually is coming out next year -- just because it's on a list of 2019 films, that doesn't mean it's still happening. For example, The Nightingale has a release date of January 2019 on IMDb, but it's not even in production yet so it probably won't be coming out at all next year. Same goes for Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine and The Rosie Project, both of which are still in development.

I don't take this prompt to mean only those being released in 2019. I think if it's in development then it is becoming a movie...

In development doesn't even mean it will be made. Lots of books have their rights revert back to the author after a few years. Sometimes this happens for decades.

Goodreads keeps recommending that I read "Knife of Never Letting Go," so I guess this means I should read it. XD

Sorry, I meant "in production." Even if it doesn't get a release, it at least began the process of becoming a movie.

So many choices already. My top choice so far is "Greyhound" based on The Good Shepherd by C.S. Forester (starring Tom Hanks). Also looking at many that have already been mentioned.

Does anyone know the status of The Bell Jar? I've seen it on a list of books coming out as movies in 2019, but I've also seen sites say it is due for release in 2018. Mind you I've seen no evidence that it has actually been released yet. Even if it is released in the last few weeks of the year I doubt it will be released here since we are usually a few weeks or more behind. So I could still sneak it in on a technicality!

Imdb states the production status of 'The Bell Jar' as unknown and it has no release date...
I can recommend 'Where'd you go Bernadette' and 'The knife of never letting go', very different books but I enjoyed both. 'The knife of...' is one of those books I like so much I am nervous of how the movie turns out.

The challenge is totally your own and you can stretch or skip prompts however you want to! I'm personally pretty strict, but then ask me again in December with a handful of prompts still left ;)

Although I believe A Discovery of Witches was already released this year, and it's just in the US it will be premiering for the first time in 2019. But that's your call!

The only info I can find out about it was from 2016, so I'm not sure if it's still going ahead. It was meant to be directed by Elizabeth Banks but it's not listed on her IMDB profile.
