Team Nutmeg (Competitive) - Chat
Hey guys. Happy to be on the team. Just so you know, I'm computer-less at home right now. But if I need to do something, message me through Goodreads and I'll get the email in my phone.
Hey, girls! Thanks for letting us know about your computer-less situation. So starting the 19th, we have 10 tasks to work through. A big element of this challenge is page count. We get a point for every 100 pages of a book we read for a task and a point for completing the task. All of us should try to read a book for each one of these tasks... Anyone else thinking this really is going to be a challenge?! :D
Thanksgiving:
November 19th-December 9th
-Tasks-
1. Read a book with leaves on the cover
2. Read a book published in November
3. Read a book that starts with one of these letters: T,H,A,N,K,S,G,I,V
4. Read a book with food on the cover or in the title
5. Read a book that involves sports
6. Read a book with an animal on the cover.
7. Read a book with decorations on the cover (Christmas lights, Thanksgiving decorations, etc.)
8. Read a book that is either part of a family series or has the word FAMILY in the title.
9. Read a book with a candle on the cover.
10. FREEBIE ( read any book you want
I'm going to start checking on what I have around. I'm picking up a library book tomorrow, so hopefully it'll fit something.
Hey Dawn and Karis! So excited to work on this challenge with both of you!Karis, thanks for listing the tasks! That'll be very convenient. :D I've already done 2, 3, and 6, but from what Melanie said, those don't count? So I guess I'll try to find something else that fits those categories.
I think for 8 I'll reread The Coronation and The Rebellion since I want to reread them anyway, and they both have a high number of pages.
Any ideas for what y'all're going to read?
Because of work and my making Christmas gifts, my reading time will be slightly limited. But I'll probably do a reread of the China Garden (it fits leaves on the cover). I'm also in the mood to reread Ella Enchanted. I'll post pictures of the covers Monday if I get a chance to.
Nice!I'll PM both of you the link to a Google Doc I made that'll help us keep our points organized. :)

No, any books we read, don't count until the 19th, Lilian. And thanks for making a google doc. That will help us out.
You did notice the review thread the mod made right, though? Once we read our book for the category, we post on our team's review thread, so she can update our progress.
I was going through the library books I have out right now. And I have a couple for several of the categories. :D I'm just waiting till the 19th to start reading.
I'm on my phone and can't post title pictures.I checked out these books from the library today.
The Apothecary Rose by Candace Robb - works for title starting with a letter in Thanksgiving.
Christmas Caramel Murder by Joanne Fluke - works for food on the cover or in the title. Also works for decorations on the cover (there is a decorated Christmas tree on it)
The Crimson Heirlooms by Hunter Dennis - works for leaves on the cover
Thanks you two! I'll post the ones I have planned to read tomorrow, hopefully, once the challenges starts! Yay, for working ahead and planning! This is going to be a lot of fun.
I'm currently reading
for my book with an animal cover. It has 500+ pages, so I'm excited for those extra points. :D
I'm in a bit of a book slump, so it's going to be a challenge for me as well. Last year was a good reading year for me, and I only averaged 8 books a month, so we'll see.
So, I just finished my book for the task to read a book with food in the title or cover. I really struggled with finding a book to fit the task, so it's a shorter one, but it was a fun re-read.
I've gotten two reviews posted today. Yay! I'm working on reading novellas since I can get through them faster. I just finished one of Julie Lessman's O'Connor Christmas ones. They work for family and for Christmas decorations.
Hey, Dawn and Karis! Sorry I've been so MIA on this challenge- I've been a lot busier than anticipated. Yesterday I could have read a lot... but I sprained my neck, so that didn't happen. xD Hopefully tomorrow I'll read some more!
You're fine, Lilian. LOL I've been rather MIA too. I'm working on reading a couple of books for the challenge right now.

I know that I won't hit 10 categories, but I will finish 9. I'm working on my one with an animal on the cover now.
It's been really tough. This past week I've had to read like crazy to get them all. ;) Not recommended. Serious brain fog can occur. :P

4. Read a book with snow/snowflakes on the cover or in the title.

I didn't realize that right as soon as the one segement ended the other started. :D
Hey guys. Sorry that I've been MIA for most of this challenge. We had a ton of family in on the 15-16, I was making homemade Christmas gifts, I had to put my cat down, and more family in over Christmas. I have managed to finish 3 books, and should be able to get the reviews posted this week.

Oh, Dawn, I am so sorry to hear that about your cat.

I understand completely, Dawn. It's a busy time of the year and things come up. I've gotten 6 of the categories read, and I *hope* to finish a couple more before the end of the month.
Melanie, I know that Lilian's read books for at least 4 four of the other categories besides the one she listed when the challenge first started. I asked yesterday if she would add them to review thread, but I think she thought there was one more day to the challenge, and I don't know if she gets on the internet on Sundays. But they have to be posted when the challenge is still open even if they were read before when it still was, right?
I will allow a few days grace period for posting. If the book was finished within the time limit of the round, feel free to post. :)

Melanie wrote: "Or you can post her books in the thread for her, if you know how the page info and stuff."She let me know that she's been away on vacation, which is why she hasn't been updating as she's been reading.
I did go ahead and add two books for her, with a read by Lilian note for you. :D

Thanks, Karis! Sorry, Dawn and Karis- I've been such a horrible teammate! Being gone for long periods of time, not reading as much as I can... I'm so sorry! Need to think things through before signing up for these challenges. xD Thanks for covering for me, Karis! I'll try to do better for the New Year challenge. :)
Lilian, honestly! don't get worked up at all about it! Please. The point is to have fun and to enjoy the challenge of maybe trying something new and different then what you'd normally read, trying to get one to work for the categories. :P This upcoming one has me stumped a bit and is going to take a bit of thought ahead of time to find. A book with fireworks on the cover? *cue panic music*
And didn't you just read a couple books with cute mugs of coffee and coco on the cover, Lilian? :D

I didn't realize how difficult fireworks was for a task! I can only find two Christian Fiction books and I've searched several sites:
Because of that, I'm going to edit the task to make it less restrictive:
FIREWORKS! Read a book with fireworks or fire on the cover or in the title.

I found two books that may help you with fireworks, A Mom's New Start, A Love Inspired by Margaret Daley and Sweet Liberty by Paige Winsop Dooly and 3 other authors. It's a collection of novellas.
Ooh, cool! The fireworks / fire one is interesting- definitely going to look into that, since I'm pretty sure I have some books with fire on them. And the dress one! I'm reading A Time to Die right now, and Parvin's wearing a skirt (that counts, I hope?), so that's neat. :DBy the way, I added a New Year's table to the document we have. If you need the link again, I'll PM it to you. Just let me know. :)
