It was early. The morning dew still glistened on the grass, birds whistling their sweet song in the trees. The sun was just coming up over the jagged mountain horizon, the faint light warm against Gigi’s pink cheeks. It was Thursday, and her mother had already left for work in town, leaving her to unpack the rest of the suitcases on her own. They’d moved to Warwick just a few days ago, it hardly felt real. This time last week, she would have been running around the block of her suburban New York neighborhood, her tennis shoes slapping the pavement while she bobbed her head to her workout playlist without a worry in the world. She had her sisters to bicker with over who was wearing who’s clothes, and a father to ruffle her hair and call her kiddo at the breakfast table, just like he had since she was five. And now... and now she was here. Alone, with an insurmountable weight of guilt weighing on her shoulders.

She had come here to clear her mind and her out of that cramped dark house her mother had found last minute on the market, if anything to escape the self deprecating thoughts that seemed to plague her as of recently. She missed her friends, she missed her life- if only she’d listened, would it have been different? Would she still be in New York, worrying about impressing the cute neighbor boy, James, or gossiping on the phone with Ella? She’d never felt more isolated in her life, being in some place she’d never heard of with some people who, according to her mother, were just like her. What was the word Ella had used again? Freaks.

Gigi’s cheeks were blotchy from sitting out in the cold, her knees pulled up to her chest where she had situated herself on the edge of the small pond. Tugging her black beanie down on her curls, Gigi sighed and stared at the overgrown grass beside her, gleaming with morning sunshine. Ever since the incident, she hadn’t dared try manipulating plant life, even upon her mother’s insistence that she learn to control her abilities as soon as was possible. After the incident, Gigi just didn’t know if she was ready, until this morning. She’d awoken with an odd shaky confidence, decidedly stomping her feet into some boots and setting off towards the park just minutes earlier. She was still in her pajamas, an old pullover band sweatshirt with some black thermal leggings, but she didn’t anticipate meeting anyone. The place was empty, as it most often was when she passed through on a few occasions before.

After a quick glance around her, Gigi tentatively exhaled and extended a finger towards the low hanging branches above her, just willing the thing to start moving like it had the first time. What was she supposed to do? How did this whole... nymph thing work? Was there a spell she was supposed to mutter, or a hand signal? Absorbed with self doubt, Gigi strained her focus on the tree from where she sat, her arm extended above her head as if she were trying to just touch the branch.

Gigi shrieked.

Someone had appeared, materialized beside the tree, a tall boy with dark hair and a mischievous smirk, from seemingly out of nowhere. Gigi clapped a hand over her mouth to muffle her outburst, wide eyed as the boy began to speak. Had he seen her, with her hand in the air, that intense, stupid look of concentration on her face?

Not only had he seen her in a moment so personal, but he’d also seen her flinch ten feet like a fool. Why was he here? How long had he been watching? Gigi nervously shrunk back against the tree trunk, avoiding the boy’s slow gaze with her breath held.

“I-I wasn’t trying to molest anything-“ Gigi began, stammering thickly, her cheeks flooding with a rouge so deep it reached the tips of her beanie-covered ears. Shifting her tightly clasped hands to her lap, she mentally kicked herself for how flustered she was getting by this stranger. “I was just admiring the trees,” she finished lamely, puffing air from her cheeks with her arms around her knees. She willed him to go away silently.

“What are you doing here?” It came off more harsh than she had intended, but at this point, she was now more than flustered. The trees rustled above, leaves drifting to the ground around her. The tendrils of grass beneath her feet swirled, twisting and curling quietly around the toes of her boots.

Gigi straightened as he squatted beside her, his face suddenly close enough to where she could count each one of his perfectly dark eyelashes. He was awfully close for a stranger, and seeing as she didn’t quite exactly trust him in this odd quirky town, she gnawed on the inside of her lip in contemplation. Should she be worried? Her mother had spoken of there being others, freaks- was he one of them? Could she outrun him, if he were to pounce on her neck for fresh blood, or rip her to shreds with werewolfic canines? It was a stretch to assume that he was one of them.

Tugging on a strand of curly hair, Gigi’s shy gaze flickered between the boy and the reflection of light on the pond. “Not exactly,” Gigi laughed shortly, “I just- I- the trees look nice,” her voice fell flat. Normally, boys didn’t talk to her, and she didn’t talk to boys. Gigi Wolfe was a wallflower, never anything desired by any person ever. In addition to being the first person she’d formally met in this nowhere place, her first impression had been humiliating, and she lacked the self confidence she had hoped to start herself off with in Warwick. Instead, she was scratching her head and trying to figure out how to talk to a member of the male species, blubbering and blundering over every word like a fool.

Even still, he appeared interested in trying to figure her (or what her problem was) out. He had dark hair and dark eyebrows, dark irises and dark eyelashes; his lips were quirked, slight creases in the corner of his cheeks. He was handsome, to say the least, about her age, or even a little older. To her significant surprise, the boy made himself comfortable sitting on the grass across from her, her feet just shy of his crossed legs. Unbeknownst to her, the patch of grass beneath him flattened before he could sit, shying away from the boy’s body while she stared at him. Dread knotted in her stomach. She had wished he’d disappear again, but instead it would appear that she had company. He didn’t seem like he would be leaving any time soon as he adjusted himself on the damp grass.

“I guess it is,” Gigi squeaked. Small talk was not her strong suit; this was normally when she would shrink back, and let her mother or sister’s or friends steer the conversation away from herself, and she’d listen passively. Instead, under the harsh glare of the boy’s spotlight, he seemed too interested in getting familiar with her for her to have any hope of being left along again. Silence, then the lazy flicker of his eyes across her face, questions lingering on the tip of his tongue. To avoid any awkward ones being asked she thought that it would be a good idea to be the first one to break the silence. Asking his name? Talking about herself? Finding out if he was a monster like her? Alas, no; Gigi’s conscience only needed to make the biggest joke of herself first, intimidated by his dark stare. “Isn’t the grass wet?” She blurted at last, before shaking her head. “That was a stupid question, I just- I don’t know I get nervous, I’m not really good at this-“ it was like a faucet she couldn’t turn off, words spilling endlessly from her pink lips. Oh god. Please just say something.

It almost looked like this boy was mocking her, with his pleased smile and the suggestive twinkle in his eye. He was obviously not one to take hints of ladies in distress, because no amount of blushing or stammering seemed to deter said boy from speaking to her. He sat back, watching her as if trying to figure her out. If she wasn’t so damn harried about getting him to look away for the sake of making her feel less scrutinized, she might have wondered what his story was, if he was like this to every girl he met sitting in the park.

Luckily her outburst was receipted well, and to her relief, he broke out into a pearly grin. It made her feel less tense, easing her hunched shoulders as she made a feeble attempt to laugh alongside him. This was funny. She was funny. Gigi was fully aware that he was laughing at her and not with her, but that wasn’t the point.

He was a charmer, sticking out his hand for her to shake with that contagious smile on his lips. Musa. Inhaling sharply, Gigi stared at the hand, then, carefully extending her own, she accepted his handshake. “Giana,” she offered meekly, “or just Gigi. I’m new here and I guess… you’re the first person I’ve been able to meet.” A friend, or so she hoped.

Violet made her way down the dusty path, book in hand. She had done her best to tame her wild curls underneath her beanie - to little avail. She kept pushing them from her face as she walked, the light breeze wasn't an ally either.

She pulled her book to her chest and found a small park bench underneath a tree. As she plopped down, Violet crossed her legs out in front of her and leaned back. She buried her nose in her book and began to tune out the outside world.

She had done her best to keep herself covered as she went out today. Her curls were carefully tucked into her beanie, and she kept her skin covered under a baggy grey sweater and black tights. She didn't want any boys bothering her today, or ever - but being a succubus ... sometimes it couldn't be helped. Violet let out a huff and rolled her eyes at that thought. But nevertheless, she pulled away at her book.

lorien ‧͙⁺˚*・༓ଳ | 124 comments Sader held Wolfy tightly under his shoulder, so much so the stuffed animal yelled. “Sorry,” Sader said softly, setting Wolfy down so he could at least walk beside him. “Something wrong?” Wolfy asked, tongue sticking out even if it was winter. “I just. . . you don’t think I’m dumb, do you?” “Noooo. . . what makes you say?” “Nothing,” Sader said, a little too quickly. But it was something. Pearl Schwartz said that he was too stupid to even past the sixth grade and that he would be even more of a weirdo than they were because of childish liking for stuffed animals. The two walked through the park for half an hour when a sudden pull in Sader’s stomach forced him to look up. The first thing that came into his line of vision was a very beautiful girl, loads older than he was, and he walked towards her. What’s going on? Sader thought, palms sweating and praying that whatever this was would go away. “H-hello,” Sader said nervously. Why was he even talking to her? He didn’t even know her!

Violet had just flipped the page of her book when she heard a small voice call out. Her brows furrowed ever so slightly as she began to lower her book into her lap. Holding her spot in the book in place with her thumb, she closed it and turned her icy blue eyes to the young boy before her.

Her lips curled into a small smile. She knew exactly what was happening, and usually it would annoy her - but at least this time it was just a little kid. "Hi there... what's your name?" She cooed softly, tucking a strand of hair back under her beanie.

lorien ‧͙⁺˚*・༓ଳ | 124 comments “S-Sader R-rose, miss,” Sader stammered, hoping that maybe she’d notice that he was being extra polite. Why was he giving his name to a random stranger? She was much too pretty but the warning in his stomach bubbled. Something was not right. “W-what are y-you reading?” He asked.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Violet's face flushed just slightly. She wasn't reading a book for children, and now she was slightly embarrassed to show this innocent kid what it was.

"Oh- well, It's just a scary story." She said vaguely. When she had visited the library yesterday she wasn't sure why 'It' seemed to draw her. She didn't like horror, and she thought Stephen King was creepy. Yet here she was reading it in broad daylight.

Violet removed her thumb and set the book aside. Violet was actually in the mood to converse for once, so her usual shyness slipped away. "So, Sader - what are you doing out here?" To her, he seemed much too young to be out and about by himself. Violet turned from the boy and did a quick glance around to see if anyone else was around that seemed to be with him - to no avail.

Maybe her was just a loner like she was. This thought sent a pang threw her heart and she scooted off to the side of the bench, patting the seat beside her to offer him a spot.

lorien ‧͙⁺˚*・༓ଳ | 124 comments “It isn’t too scary, is it?” Sader asked a very child-like tone that was unlike him. He didn’t want the girl to be scared. And if she were, he’d gladly light the dreadful book on fire. When she tapped on the bench, Sader nimbly sat next to her. She was far too pretty for this world. She should be in the heavens. Sader patted his lab and Wolfy circled a few times before landing, satisfied, on the young master’s lap. “Oh, just taking a s-stroll with Wolfy. Want to pet him? He won’t bite you,” Sader said, handing Wolfy over to the girl before she could say no.

((He's so adorable, I can't xD))

Violet chuckled at his question, laugh ringing out like a bell. "No it's not too scary." She watched the young boy curiously as he climbed into the spot net to her. Violet shifted her body to face him a little more before responding.

Then there was a small dog in her lap. Violet went a little slack-jawed, but began giggling again. "Well, he certainly is cute." She said lowering her and to the animal's back to scratch it.

lorien ‧͙⁺˚*・༓ଳ | 124 comments ((Gosh that’s brilliant. You made my day. XD I was worried that he wasn’t acting. . . adorable enough. XD))

“Good,” he said, infatuated with her for every second that ticked by. Sader was pleased to see that Wolfy and the girl was getting along so well. This was a true sign that he should ignore the sinking feeling in his stomach. “I brought him to life in a toy store. I’m really glad we became friends.” And within no time, maybe he and the girl may become good friends too! “What’s your name?” He asked, rubbing Wolfy’s long ears.

Thankfully Violet had researched all about Warwick enough to know that this crazy town affected people differently. She had heard tell of sorcerers and whatnot, but never met one before.

Violet glanced around them to make sure no one had overheard, some people were still naive to the deeper workings of Warwick, and she wasn't sure how they would take a little boy claiming to animate things.

"Well that's snazzy, ... you might ... you might want to keep your voice down sweetie."

lorien ‧͙⁺˚*・༓ଳ | 124 comments “Why? Because of the humans?” Sader shuddered at the thought. “Mommy and daddy say that we should get rid of them before them come after us. Because they might send vans and trucks to kill us all.” He was oblivious to the fact that he should keep his voice down. But if she wanted him to be quiet. . . “Okay. If it’ll make you happy,” Sader said, looking up at the girl with big brown eyes. “What about you? Are you a human going to kill me?”

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

It had been a while since she had been around the naivety of a child, she'd forgotten how adorable they were. She wanted to wrap this little guy up and make sure no one ever hurt him.

His words about humans coming for him sent a cold shiver down her spine. Violet hadnt really thought about it that way.

"No, no silly. Im not gonna hurt you." Violet put a hand on the boys shoulder. "I dont think anyone would want too. But to be on the safe side, thats why we keep things like this a secret - see?" She asked him, praying he understood. If he did happen to encounter a human and said all these things... who know what would happen.

lorien ‧͙⁺˚*・༓ଳ | 124 comments He didn’t. He didn’t understand why he’d have to keep this a secret. But if she wanted him to keep this quiet. . . then he would. “Okay. I will keep my mouth shut,” Sader replied, bobbing his head. “I wouldn’t want us to die because of me.” He cuddled right next to her side. He felt warm and protected by her. And maybe if she didn’t push him aside, like his mother did, he could stay here forever.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Violet was a bit taken by surprise. But of course her heart broke a little for this boy, so she tentatively wrapped an arm around him and patted his head with her hand. He was too young to be troubled by this, he should be out playing with his friends.

lorien ‧͙⁺˚*・༓ଳ | 124 comments “Do you have friends?” Sader asked, hugging Wolfy so tightly the stuffed animal yelped. “Hey! I know!” He jumped suddenly from her and with a big smile exclaimed, “I can be your friend! We can be best friends forever!” Though logic would scream otherwise, the boy had such a desire to be her friend. Maybe it was unhealthy, but Sader could have more than Wolfy as a friend. And the lady seemed nice enough.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Violet laughed lightly, and hid a blush from her face. This little boy was adorable, and quite loud. She placed her arms back in her lap and shrugged a bit, "I mean, sure. I'll be your friend." She said with a small smile. She wasn't sure what she would do with such a young friend, but it wasn't like she had anyone else vying for her attention.

lorien ‧͙⁺˚*・༓ଳ | 124 comments “Nice!” He said, giving her a big thumbs up before settling for a hug. She smelled good. Like really good. It was a wonder to Sader how people weren’t already swarming around her. “So where do you wanna go now that we’re friends?” Sader asked eagerly. “Are you sure that’s wise?” Wolfy asked, raising a section of fur. “Be quiet,” the boy whispered.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

Violet shrugged and tossed her hair. "Well, I'm not really sure - I don't really know of a whole lot of places." She admitted to Sader, finishing their hug and pulling away. "Does your dog know any games?"

lorien ‧͙⁺˚*・༓ଳ | 124 comments “Yup! He listens to my every word!” Sader said excitedly. “Watch.” He placed Wolfy down on the grass and said, “Sit!” Wolfy did so obediently giving his master a raised eyebrow. “Honestly Sader, you insult me with petty dog tricks,” Wolfy yawned.” Sader’s pale cheeks warmed. He didn’t want to be made like a fool in front of the girl. That would be humiliating. “Jump into the tree,” Sader commanded, smiling when Wolfy complied. “We also play Ultimate frisbee together. Even if it is just the two of us. You should play! It’s loads of fun!” Maybe he’d even get to impress her!

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

((Can she hear the dog?))

Violet watched as the dog bounced around, still a little on edge at people around them seeing. Thankfully, it was still pretty early and there weren't many people out at this time.

"Well, I mean - I could try sometime. I'm not very ... athletic though." She said with a small laugh and a slightly embarrassed blush.

“Why not?” Sader asked. “You look ath-athletic to me.” Wolfy hung his tongue out of his mouth. “You mustn’t ask questions like that, Sader. That’s her business, not yours.” “Oh,” Sader said softly. “Sorry.”
