Ellen | 3574 comments Harry Crane loves trees. Working for the Pennsylvania Forest Service seems to be the perfect fit for Harry but he is bored with his desk job. After a devastating tragedy leaves Harry widowed, he seeks comfort in his beloved forest. There he meets Amanda and her precocious daughter Oriana who have recently suffered their own loss of husband/father Dean. Amanda lives on the edge of the forest where Dean had built a spectacular tree house. Harry decides it is the perfect place for his needs and rents the tree house. The three become great friends, especially Oriana and Harry who hatch a strange plan based on a fairy tale book from the local library. Together they try to work through their grief and begin to live again.

This is a difficult book to review. I am not a fan of magic realism but I enjoyed the three main characters. There was just so much going on all of the time with fairy tales, Olive an elderly librarian in a falling down library, a questionably evil brother named Wolf, magical feathers, a villainous real estate agent, and on and on; too much for me to absorb in one book.
