Chapter 8 (view spoiler)[ I have mixed feeling on this so far, it very dramatic. Spensa is a lot with the outburst and constant tantrums. I think the story has a lot of potential I just hope it calms down with the drama (hide spoiler)]

Oh god I'm in love with the world and with Spensa already.
Poor girl had it tough, killing rats to keep her family fed and everyone against her because of her father was a traitor. (I wonder if the mystery about her father's "fleeing" will be settled in this book)

(view spoiler)[I LOVE Spensa. I actually really liked her Dad too, and I was super sad that he did what he did. But I also like how Sanderson set it up for a hurdle for Spensa to over claim. She is such a strong willed character. She is very impressive so far. I love the set up. Sanderson always does so well at establishing his world. This is pretty fast paced, and I also so far like how unique all the side characters are. (hide spoiler)]

Anyhow I'm loving it so far, and the fast pace is sure nice for me currently as the other books I read are super slow.

20% (view spoiler)[ I do like Spensa but she is beyond intense, even as a child her intensity was overwhelming, I love her drive really but she seems like she is being set up for an even bigger fall. Her views are white and black without any gray and with her intensity I feel like she is going to be questioning everything she knows. I hope it doesn't break her. I hate how she is being blackballed, especially when you can see her passion so clearly. (hide spoiler)]

45% - (view spoiler)[ Im a little irritated as I had some highlights of all the one liners Spin throws out but its an ARC copy so somehow I have lost all of them. But Doomslug the Destroyer....what a name. I wish we knew a tad more about the world and these creatures. I am glad Rig is still around I was sad to see him opt out, but he made sense. I mean in all honesty it would be hard being Spin's friend and basking in that energy and not just follow along. I am super confused about M Bot and why he is down here in the first place though and why his pilot never came back. I wonder if they will be able to his memories going. (hide spoiler)]

75% (view spoiler)[ OMG poor Spensa. In all honesty after reading the exerpts from Ironsides perspective I had a feeling she was going to turn out as a good guy in a bad spot. She just didn't seem like a betrayer...but at the same time FM's rants are starting to make a ton more sense. Its almost like they are taking themselves out from the inside. I love that Rig is finding his passion. Really its amazing watching him open up and blossom doing something he loves! I just wish we knew what the crap is going on beyond the planet. What in the world happened to her dad! (hide spoiler)]

Finished (view spoiler)[ What an epic read! loved this book! The characters were so well rounded and unique to each other. I love how even though the story is far from over we have received enough answers about what is going on that I feel satisfied with where the book has stopped. I can't wait to read the next in the series! (hide spoiler)]

I just finished this and it was so good!!!! That ending was spectacular and I didn’t see most of it coming!!!

I'll start today

Chapter 9: (view spoiler)[Wow, okay, here we go! Almost read on to see what happens as they get deployed, but thought I should do a post here first. I can't believe they are being sent out already! I'm ready for this to turn into a big mess... but I suppose they need all the pilots they can get. I was surprised when it was said only one or two pilots come out of each training group. That's not a lot considering many die early and all.

So Spensa is kind of extra and dramatic and very absorbed in getting to fight, but I expect she'll change in the book. I'm also glad she's not this instantly perfect pilot in training—because while she studied hard, that doesn't mean you're good at doing it in real life from the moment you start.

I don't know if it's just me, but I'm also finding this book very funny so far. XD (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 19: (view spoiler)[Phew, I'm glad they weren't actually sent into the action, though they still did end up seeing some of it with that ship. Spensa really does need some practice, but really, they all do (except Jorgen and his friends haha).

I'm sad Rig left, but Spensa's reaction also shows how little she understands about some things and how fixated she has become on being a pilot. I can't believe they are taking bio readings on Spensa! That's so... creepy.

But we now get to see the ship I've heard about! I find it kind of hilarious how mushrooms are part of its mission, but that's got to have some significance.

Let's just not talk about that battle, because aaaaa it's so sad Bim and Morningtide are gone. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 27: (view spoiler)[Spensa has a brain defect??? I don't know whether to believe that or not... maybe Ironsides is just grasping for straws. FM does have a point about how their lives are so militarized.

And I knew Chasers wasn't a coward! There has to be something behind his death. I'm also wondering what exactly that falling station was. How did it get there? From a really old colony on Detrius, before the Defiants crashed? What happened to whoever made all that stuff before, including the old defense systems? There's so much mystery, but I'm loving it. It's been a while since I've read a book like this.

Also... I knew pretty much the moment they showed up that those were Nedd's brothers, but when it was confirmed... that was so sad. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 40: (view spoiler)[It's so sad Jorgen was trying to figure out if he could have saved Bim and Morningtide... and now Hurl is dead too. The bravado thing with ejecting being cowardly is so stupid.

I can't believe Chaser turned on his crew! And what are these eyes that have been mentioned? Are they related to the Krell? Maybe Chaser's mind was altered when he went up there, or he saw something so terrible he lost all hope. I think the book may end with Spensa going up there. (hide spoiler)]

Finished! (view spoiler)[That ending was so suspenseful and dramatic and everything that I'm just... speechless. I loved this! It was so painful seeing Spensa worry about how she might go insane, whether she was worth the risk of flying, worrying about whether she was a coward... but in the end she was so badass. I really thought that Alta was going to go down, or at least some of it.

And Krell as jailers? That's insane and so creepy. I'm so happy that M-Bot helped her in the end, and it was also really touching how the others on her team came to help even though they had dropped out.

(view spoiler)[I'm also really surprised that they're being sent away so early when they hardly made it to going up and down in three hours. I hope they won't all die immediately.
I think Spensa is so dramatic because of her instant want to defeat her father and to clear his name, and I suppose a big part of the change will come because people in the Flight School don't know who her father is. I'm really interested in what would have happened if she would count as a First Citizen child and get into the flight school automatically. Because if her father didn't die she would have been one of those who "do nothing and get their places for free" and all of it.
I really hope she won't turn to be enemies with her crewmates, because I pretty hate this iconic "mc enemy" character in books (I mean in groups and classes, not the villains) (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 16
(view spoiler)[ Wait, what? The ship is talking? This is a twist I wasn't expecting at all, but I'm sure it'll turn things to be much more interesting.
I kind of understand why Spensa sometimes acts so angrily, and it's really sad how everyone's approach to her changed when they discovered who her father is. But maybe it's good that she won't start a romance with Bim if it's strictly forbidden in the school (it's really funny to imagine them as a couple, talking about how to kill their enemies in the cruellest way).

Chapter 30
(view spoiler)[ M-Bot is by far the most annoying character in this book, but his also so cute! And he has to stop denying he has a personality and just loves mushrooms without any normal reason. But it's so cool that they've repeared M-Bot! I still don't think it's a good idea to fly him to the DFF battles (and FM definitely has a point about the war taking over the government and basically everything).
But Spin made it to the third month of the flight school, and as much as I can tell she's determined to continue, so she has a chance! If this defect (whatever it is) won't take over her. I have a feeling it is real, and the DFF are telling Chaser is a coward to hide the defect. But if Cobb had to shot Chaser down because of the defect it must be something serious that can really be a problem for Spin... Or can it?

First quarter - (view spoiler)[Wow, what a beginning! Little Spenca is so sweet, as is her adoration for her father. I really felt their shared love and the last line, where he learn he is now deemed a coward was such a shock.

It was so sad to read the scenes following this, where Spenca lives largely alone to avoid the bullying and taunts she receives as a Coward's daughter. (hide spoiler)]

Second quarter - (view spoiler)[How could they treat a clearly more than competent individual like that? Spenca not only longs to fly, but lives to conquer the stars. It is breaking her heart that she may not be able to, just because of her father's actions. I'm so glad she go the chance to prove herself and is encouraged to battle against all the odds placed against her. She is so bloody and feisty but her anger is the fire that will keep her fighting longer and harder when most would have given up. (hide spoiler)]

Third quarter - (view spoiler)[All of the war and death are starting to affect me. It is so hard to bond with these characters and not know which will make it during their next mission. They are so unprepared and are provided with so few answers to why and what they are fighting that is no wonder that so many lives are lost! I feel that Spin and Jerkface's feelings for each other will continue to grow. Their enemies to friends to... something more? relationship is so slow-burning and authentic and I am totally rooting for it! (hide spoiler)]

Fourth quarter - (view spoiler)[What an amazing read! I was glued to every blood-soaked and war-heavy scene. Sanderson added enough science to make this feel real, enough mystery to always keep me guessing, and enough description to make every flight easy to follow whilst dually getting lost in. I loved the ending and how what lay beyond the stars will undoubtedly come more in to play in the next book. Space adventures don't always work for me but this one had me thoroughly engaged.

Also, I never knew I could get so attached to a slug and a sentient fighting ship! (hide spoiler)]

I also loved the unexpected humour. Spenca's bloody declarations always had me laughing!

I loved this one too. There is so much still left to find out though. I can't wait for book two!
