What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

Hello!

I'm currently searching for a YA book I remember reading a long time ago. At this point, it may have been well over 8-10 years ago, though I don't remember how old the book was/is. I'm also almost certain it was by a Canadian male author.

I don't remember much about it other than that it was about a teen boy who turns out to be a fairy. I think there may have been some sort of ending/final battle scene involving an orphanage? I also want to say the book cover was a dark red! Over all, I do remember it giving me sort of Artemis Fowl and Spiderwick Chronicle vibes.
