Boxing: Fury vs Usyk and more

However, in lower weights you have brilliant and elegant fighters from Floyd Mayweather to the Ukrainian champs that I follow - Usyk & Lomachenko.

Took a quick look and heard the beginning. Sounds like an interesting discussion. It seems to be over an hour long, but I'd be glad to hear your thoughts when an opportunity arises.
Overall - the bout felt undecided either way, so in this context a draw was a reasonable result.
Although Fury technique wise looks much better equipped, he's not translating it into a dominant performance - more dodging than power punching.
I didn't like Fury - Klitschko fight, because of the extreme passivity of the latter, however I thought Fury's win was fair. I liked this one. Knock downs took points off. Weren't he knocked down twice, he could've dethroned Wilder.
I believe this would be decided for a bigger buck at some later stage.
Read now that maybe Joshua would face Usyk in April...

Usyk going for a title fight as the opener in the heavyweight looks too much and perilous for him. If anything, I trust Loma, whose father is Usyk's coach and who knows Usyk the best that he doesn't see Usyk as a heavyweight yet...
Surprisingly (for me at least), Bellew was leading on the scorecards b4 the knockout

Iain's not here, but maybe anyone else's following? Any predictions?

I think that the only way that this stuff will stop is if an actual contender accepts a celebrity match and then puts them in the hospital. Maybe seeing what a working boxer will do to them will make these idiots quit it.

Waiting for Joshua - Usyk
Congratulations, Nik, Usyk and people of Ukraine. It sounds like it was a great fight. Now let's see Usyk vs Britain's best heavyweight, Tyson Fury.
Great weekend for sport, what with the exciting boxing and Villa beating Man Utd 1-0 at Old Trafford :)

Nik, I didn’t see the fight but heard it was a classic. For me, both Fury and Wilder comfortably have the beating of AJ. What will be interesting to see is how the smaller but technically-brilliant Usyk fares against them. I'm looking forward to finding out.
Fury has an interesting family. His dad is a top, top bloke. I also like his wife, who is attractive, intelligent and has a real steely streak. I think she wears the trousers in their household :) I saw her on a women’s talk show a while back, alongside various well-known female journalists. At the start, they were a bit patronising towards her, as if she was some sort of bimbo or airhead, but by the end it was clear to see that she was more intelligent than all of them.
On topic with the busiest thread, Tyson has started wearing a mask lately, presumably because he caught covid. I mentioned this to the Mrs (who also likes Fury’s wife and is a harder-core sceptic than I am) and she said she could just imagine Mrs Fury telling Tyson, as he lay in bed ill, that it’s only a cold, not to be such a big baby and to get himself up because they’ve got something like 8 kids to look after :)
My favourite British heavyweights are Fury and Dereck Chisora (I’ve got to be honest, I’m not a big AJ fan). If you haven’t come across Chisora, he’s very good but not quite up to the aforementioned fighters’ mark. That said, he's very game and a huge character. Keep an eye out for him. He’s always good value for money.

Good description, Nik. Something else I like about him is that he's a bit of a lad :)
He's a proud Brexiteer, friend of Farage, isn't shy of a press-conference dust-up to sell a few more tickets, and even got deported from somewhere for threatening to shoot an opponent. None of it was done with any malice lol...all good, wholesome fun.

I've just heard some upsetting news. My favourite boxer of all time, Chris Eubank, has been mugged in London! I can only presume it was a grab and run because, even in his 50s, he wouldn't surrender anything to a mugger.
Joe Calzaghe was Britain's best boxer of the modern era but Eubank and his great adversary, Nigel Benn, were world class and remarkable champions too.
Also, forget Beckham, Eubank is Britain's best dressed man. He even dressed in a bow tie during his spell as an American cop :) The man's a legend! I hope he replaces his stolen accessories with minimal fuss.

Got a nice pic with Vitali already as a mayor of Kiev. Gotta put it up somewhere.
In my adolescence years Mike Tyson was the man, and for Klitschko brothers - too. And I like Lennox’ persona
Pic with Vitali sounds great. You are a well-connected man.
We're both too young to remember Ali in his prime. Late 80s Mike Tyson is unquestionably the best heavyweight I've seen. He had world class opponents beaten before they got in the ring.
Lennox is still the best British heavyweight but if Fury unifies the belts, IMO, he overtakes him.
I'd love to see Wilder vs Usyk. I don't think it'd go the distance but I don't know who'd win.

Hope it’ll happen one soon day
That would/ will be a great fight. Last I heard, Fury may fight Dillian Whyte next. Dillian is teetering on being top drawer but I would expect Tyson to have too much for him.
Most Brits want to see Tyson vs AJ. It would be interesting but again I think Tyson would have too much for him. I don't rate (or particularly like) AJ but don't tell him that ;) Put it this way, I couldn't see Fury, Wilder or Usyk getting put on their ass by that Mexican bloke.

Mr. Tyson, I promise to never make another lisp joke if you don't hold back against Paul.
Good luck, Mike, you’re the best heavyweight I’ve ever seen.
Fascinating story about Mike Tyson…
He became mates with a bloke in Doncaster (a grim northern town in England). Apparently, Tyson used to travel to a local boozer on the council estate (social housing) where the bloke lived to have a beer with him. The whole estate used to turn out for it and all worshipped Tyson :)

Not really boxing, but I guess sufficiently lucrative as a show to happen
Allow me to recommend a book for boxing fans who are interested in history:
Boxiana; or, Sketches of Ancient and Modern Pugilism, from the Days of the Renowned Broughton and Slack, to the Championship of Cribb: Volume 1
Got it for Christmas a few years' ago. Focuses on the golden age of prizefighting in England's Regency era. Absolutely fascinating stuff.

Tomorrow another Tyson will face Whyte - the first big bout of the year
It's a v interesting fight. If Tyson wins, it's business as usual and hopefully Joshua next up. But don't right off Dillian - he is a v, v tough guy and on the fringes of that top bracket.
Frank Bruno recently said that Tyson wouldn't have handled the heavyweight era back in the 80s. I love and respect Frank but do me a favour - Tyson is on the brink of all-time greatness. Apart from the other Tyson, he'd have eaten the rest of the heavyweights in that era for breakfast.
On the subject of the original Tyson, my Mrs showed me the story before I saw J had posted it. That passenger must be a right dipstick arguing with Mike Tyson. If Tyson told me today was Tuesday, I'd just agree with him :)

Dillian wasn't quite up to it in the end, Nik. A tough guy and good boxer but simply outclassed.
Afterwards, Tyson hinted at retirement. As Usyk presumably has other things on his plate at the mo, I'm hoping this is a psychological ploy to try and draw Joshua into the ring. Don't know if it'll work because I'm not sure Joshua fancies it.

Usyk - Joshua rematch is on, for all I know, and he was let out of Ukraine to start his training camp

He let himself down here. The better man won and would do every time, even if they had 10 rematches.

Great news!
Great news!

Wonder if Fury will return from his “retirement”. Usyk said he was sure Tyson would.
Have anyone watched?
Looking forward to a rematch.
