I went through an anthology I have from college and ended up reading Sweat by Zora Neale Hurston, a female empowerment story from 1926 set in the south, and I loved it.Some others I've read and recommend:
The Lottery by Shirley Jackson
The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman
A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner
The Rocking Horse Winner by D.H. Lawrence
Anything by Edgar Allen Poe
I read FTL, Y’all! Which was a collection of graphic short stories. I didn’t enjoy it. I really don’t like short stories in general.
