Loraine (librarydiva) | 4454 comments I thought it would be really interesting to see what bibilical fiction books could be linked to the various books of the Old Testament. I have spent the last three months working on this and would like to share it with you throughout 2019. I hope that you will use this even if you don't have the chance to read some or all of the books that I have found. Also, if you find books that I did not find or that are new releases please let me know so we can include them.

Praying that God will bless our journey through the Old Testament.

Gretchen | 13 comments This is a neat idea Loraine! Thanks for doing it.

Just wanted to correct the book in your first post here. It is called Adam and His Kin by Ruth Beechick. It's a great book.

message 9: by Loraine (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4454 comments Thanks for catching my typing error Gretchen. That was the one book I wasn't able to find anywhere. Glad you like the idea!

message 10: by Lila (new)

Lila Diller | 225 comments I have been searching for a Biblical fiction I read a while ago that I cannot remember the title or author. It was about Dinah, Jacob's daughter, and how she found her way to Job. I remember it because it talked about the House of Seth and didn't go into any detail about her rape, because it started well after it. Does anybody know what the name is??

message 11: by Loraine (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4454 comments Possibly The Red Tent by Anita Diamant or Love Amid the Ashes by Mesu Andrews?

message 12: by Lila (new)

Lila Diller | 225 comments Yes, it was Love Amid The Ashes by Mesu Andrews
Thank you, Loraine!! :)

message 13: by Loraine (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4454 comments You're welcome glad I could help.

message 14: by Naomi's (new)

Naomi's Bookshelf | 5 comments Have you heard of The Heavens Before by Kacy Barnett-Gramckow? It is a trilogy that starts with Noah and his family. It follows them all the way to the Tower of Babel, if I remember right.

message 15: by Loraine (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4454 comments Yes I have Naomi. They will be listed with the next group - Genesis Chapters 5-9.

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4454 comments You're welcome Marion. Hope we will see you here as we discuss each section and the books we read.

message 25: by Loraine (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4454 comments I just finished reading Fallen and highly recommend it. The prose is beautifully written and almost flows like poetry. In reading the notes at the end, the author pointed out something very interesting. In Hebrew, Eve's name would have been Havah which is one of the other books I listed. Then translated later to Greek it was Heua or Eua, and then finally to English where it is Eve or Eva. She intentionally used the name Eve since there were no ethnicities at the beginning of life.

message 26: by Rachel (new)

Rachel That's really interesting. I had thought that Eve was a Hebrew name...

message 27: by Loraine (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4454 comments I thought it was quite interesting also Rachel. Shows what little known trivia we can discover along the way!

message 28: by Loraine (last edited Jan 06, 2019 07:03PM) (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4454 comments I was reading in one of my journals this morning some notes I had written from a book titled Women of the Bible by Ann Spangler.

"Eve came into the world perfectly at peace with her God and her husband. She never knew the meaning of negative emotions or feelings until she listened to her enemy and began to doubt God. Her sorrow was that she and her husband were banished from Paradise. Her joy was that she had once tasted Paradise and that God had promised that her offspring would eventually destroy her enemy. Embedded in the very curse put on Eve for her sin is a wonderful promise. God promises her and succeeding generations they will give birth to children. God's grace and mercy are marvelously evident, even when He's pronouncing judgment."

message 29: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen | 13 comments That's so good. Thanks for sharing!

message 30: by Loraine (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4454 comments You're welcome Gretchen. Just thought it summed up the Fall so perfectly and God's role and forgiveness so well.

message 31: by Kelli (new)

Kelli | 103 comments Thanks for sharing Loraine! I was just studying Genesis 3 this morning and learned from MacAthur Study Bible that Satan chose to decieve Eve because she was the weaker one and needing the protection of her husband. I know this may anger some - with today's society and equal treatment etc. - but the truth is God had a plan based on His perfect will. We also see in verse 11 the basic reluctance of sinful people to admit their iniquity. But Praise God He had a plan in verse 15!! We can rejoice knowing He loves us and has provided a way to Himself through Christ

message 32: by Loraine (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4454 comments Thanks or sharing your thoughts Kelli. I will be reading Genesis 3 today. I am currently reading Refuge (A Biblical Story of Good and Evil) by Melinda Viergever Inman and definitely see Cain's reluctance to admit his sins.

Every time I read the account of the fall in Genesis I am reminded of my own tendency as a woman to be deceived and led astray. But I am also reminded of the protection God has given me through my husband. It is humbling to realize that as a woman I may not always see things for what they are and be easily influenced by Satan's lies. So many women in our world today are struggling with this and fighting against the protection God has given them. I am so thankful for God's Word and the protection he provides.

I am finding wonderful books that I didn't know about that are so fantastic at bringing the Bible to life. I hope you will discover new ones as well.

I love the way you explained this Gretchen. Our husbands can give us wisdom and protection if we will turn to them.

message 37: by Kelli (new)

Kelli | 103 comments Gretchen you have summed it up in a wonderful way! Let us pray for our husbands, who do protect us, that God will protect them from Satan's attacks and lies.

message 38: by Loraine (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4454 comments Finished Refuge (A Biblical Story of Good and Evil) by Melinda Viergever Inman . It was a very well done telling of the story of Cain. She brought great depth to the story and helped me understand more about the problems between Cain and Able and about the beginning of the population of the world God had created. Also helped me better perceive how Satan wormed his way into mankind.

Rebecca Hart | 12 comments I just got two of the other books from the library today and am still reading Fallen and Refuge. How do you all keep up and read so many books? Not that I don't want to. If I didn't work, I could be a hermit and read all day long. All of these sound interesting. Meanwhile, I did read the book of Genesis as I am trying to read the entire Bible this year.

message 43: by Loraine (last edited Jan 10, 2019 02:52PM) (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4454 comments Great Rebecca! I have read Fallen and Refuge. I am waiting on the other two from Genesis 1-4 to arrive on ILL. Of the ones for Genesis 5-11 I will only read 4 maybe 5 and that will carry me in to February. I will post the lists, but don't feel you have to keep up. I know I won't keep up and will probably still be following this in 2020. I am retired so it is a little easier, but I am also a full time caregiver for my husband.

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4454 comments just a heads up on one of the books I listed for Genesis 1-5, Cain The Story of the First Murder and the Birth of an Unstoppable Evil (Fall of Man, #1) by Brennan S. McPherson . You can find my review @
https://www.goodreads.com/review/edit...

I did not recommend it and found after the first 20 chapters it became very speculative. So I stopped reading it. Also some things that didn't correlate with the Bible IMHO.

I will now head on to Noah and the flood.

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4454 comments There definitely are a lot of books on Noah and the Flood. I just finished Heart of a Lion (Lions of Judah #1) by Gilbert Morris , and it was so well written. I also have the Tim Chaffey series which I will read after I finish my Hidden Gem.

I'll be posting the next set of books that relate to the Tower of Babel later this week.
