I haven't done any homework on this, so if you're struggling to think of a Sci-Fi/Dystopian book with a Scottish link, we can head over to Fantasy or some other theme instead. Just let me know...
Hi Ellen,I nominate The Corporation Wars: Dissidence by Ken MacLeod...and look forward to another year in this excellent group!
Here's a handy list of titles chosen by the Scottish Book Trust - some I knew, others I didn't. It might help people choose something that tickles their fancy:http://www.scottishbooktrust.com/read...
From it can I nominate the incomparable Alasdair Gray and his A History Maker - not one of his I have read before so this would be a great incentive!
Might I suggest my own novel A Son of the Rock - a book intended from its conception to be an example of SF written from a Scottish perspective.(Other Scottish SF authors are available of course.)
I'll suggest dEaDINBURGH: Vantage by Mark Wilson. It's a set in a (sort of) post apocalyptic plague ridden Edinburgh.
Firstly, sorry I'm behind with nomination and making the poll etc, I've had a bit of a nightmare week with an Orkney storm, which injured one of my lovely goats, plus very bad WiFi due to stormy weather. Apologies, to everyone for the delay!
I have NO idea on Sci-Fi so I pretty much had a quick look at Alan's handy list and picked one on impulse. I think five nominations is a nice number for our polls, so here's my one:
Halting State by Charles Stross
I think that's been enough time to nominate so I'll make up the poll next. If I click the right buttons, it should start tomorrow. (Big if!)
Thanks everyone :)

It's surreal to me that I've taken over this marvellous group for a full year (and we're setting out on another) so we're kicking off 2019 with a surreal theme. We're looking for Sci-Fi and/or Dystopian books that are out of this world! (Excuse the bad puns, I'm excited.)
Have a think and comment your book...
Looking forward to seeing what read we'll start the year off with!
Notes: Please only one nomination per person for this theme. If you can, use the 'add book/author' button to link the book and author to avoid confusion. Nominations must have a Scottish link.
