I watched him carefully, pitying him as every second brought him closer to certain death. I looked across the crowd, scanning for familiar faces. I found them standing in the center of the crowd. They would look up eventually and see me, but he would too. They would see the decision on my face as I tried to figure out how to save him before I knew it for myself. I knew they would look up because I was the one who trained them. They would look up and scream at me not to, but the shouts would be lost in the crowd.
I looked back at him just as he looked up at me. Our eyes met and he shook his head ever so slightly. He was telling me to leave him. He was telling me to do what he could not. I smiled sadly as I slid the jacket off my shoulders and unfurled my wings through the slits in my T-shirt.
All their faces flashed before my eyes as I thought of all the people that I lost, everyone but three. And they were about to become only two, I couldn't let that happen. I saw them look up as they fought against the crowd, and freeze.
I took a deep breath and jumped off the roof, feeling my wings catch the air as the crowd turned to look at me. I wouldn't let them take him from me, even if it meant my own death.

If you take the time to simplify the world down, it doesn't seem near as frightening. Fear is frightening. Fear is what drives people to do things that make no logical sense. Fear destroys lives.
Some say that there is nothing to fear except fear itself. Fear is a natural thing, we all experience it. You cannot fear the presence of fear, or you will always be afraid. You cannot be afraid. You must face your fears.
You must face your fears, or the world will pay dearly for your weakness.

I can't see the future, but I have the power to change it to whatever I see fit. You have control over yours too. You just have to look back at your past, and shape the future into something different. Actions will speak for themselves. Who you keep close to you will matter. You must be smart. You must make every choice count. You must be cautious. And most of all, you must be brave.
