I've read quite a few reviews here on Goodreads comparing the Eye of the World to Tolkien and saying that Robert Jordan is just another wannabe. Though i don't doubt that Jordan (as well as many other fantasy authors) had read the Lord of the Rings, I don't think that the Wheel of Time is just some copy as some reviewers claim.
What do you think?

Dakota Kemp | 33 comments I agree with you, Jeana. Yes, WoT is set in a medieval fantasy world, but it's got a lot of unique facets that are far removed from anything in Tolkien's world. Sure, it's the same genre, but Tolkien is literally the father of modern fantasy. Critics could claim that any medieval fantasy story is a derivative copy of LotR.
