David Hi All,

I am searching for a vampire book that I read around 15-20 years ago.

The gist of the book was some Vampire guy building an undead plague/army and there was a section with some sort of miasma/fog. I seem to think the great fore of London was interwoven at some point.

Sorry for the vagueness of my post, I had considered the book could be The Historian? Although, from memory, the book was set around the time of the great fire of London.

Well hopefully someone may have an inkling as to the title.

Kind regards

David

Wisteria A good portion of "The Historian" takes place in Eastern Europe. I don't think this is the book you are describing. The Historian is very literate and creates Dracula as a historical figure and the husband and wife who try to track him down. It was a NY Times Bestseller.

It is not a book where vampires are tracking down people in groups, or gory. Of course, people do die, however, it is more a literary and historical take on Dracula (Vlad the Impaler) and vampires, Eastern Europe and the Middle East, rather than an intense, violent army of rampaging vampires.

I love historical, well-written, literate books (unlike books like "Twilight") and if you're into paranormal historical novels, you'll love it. It is not fast-moving like a "typical" vampire book, but it is definitely a book for those who love a thick, literate and historical story with paranormal elements. I've read it three times, already.

Try it and see. It's a NY Times Bestseller for a reason. :)

Nihita I really enjoyed The Historian because it was more literate. I also enjoyed the various points of view.

Renee The Historian is one of the best books I've read, but it doesn't sound like the book you described.

Stephen Welch I concur with everyone here who loved The Historian. Very compelling read, well-written, and erudite.

If there is a genre called "archival thriller" (including works like The Name of the Rose, The Club Dumas and Possession), The Historian would belong there. There is something particularly enjoyable (to me, at least) in unravelling an origins story for such an iconic character as Dracula. And Kostova did a fantastic job evoking the setting and history. Have never "been" to Hungary, Transylvania, or Istanbul before!
