readers advisory for all discussion

Hi there. I hope this won't fall under "shameless self promotion" and will instead be taken as helpful, but if the moderator feels it's inappropriate, please feel free to take it down.

I retired last October from a 10-year career as a teen librarian, and am now teaching both readers' advisory and young adult literature at UCLA's library school as an adjunct professor. I am also doing some consulting on the side as a readers' advisory instructor for public library staff. In connection with that, I have recently started a blog, on which I review an eclectic bunch of fiction for both adults and teens, and I wanted to invite the group to follow it if they wish. Thank you Melissa, I found your site impressive and very interesting. I have passed it on to a few friends (one an artist and one a horse nut) plus my book clubs. I think promoting a love of reading is so important on so many levels, but especially for children as it opens up a wondrous new world. Nowadays, schools in the UK have to reach targets and yet instilling a love of reading can help children academically - it's a fun way to 'push' them on - as well as helping their imagination, promoting an understanding of 'others' and other ways of life and perspectives, and just having a pleasurable hobby (which is free). Good luck with it!

You mentioned that you like books about Paris; have you read The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah? It is a wartime novel and a chunk of it is set in Paris. I loved it and I tend not to read many historical novels.
