Andrew Elphick (andrew84elphick) | 8 comments Hi all.

just curious if anybody has some good recommendations for some gritty books/series that are predominantly set in large cities with lower and upper class areas etc. it is fine if some POV’s are not set in said cities and if this is only part of a bigger story.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Yeah, it can be confusing at first. If you don't get any recommendations here, I might suggest looking at other posts in this folder or at topics that interest you in the Top Three Thursday folder.

As soon as you said cities, the first thing that comes to mind is City of Stairs. Don't know if it will be everything you're looking for, but it was an interesting mix of fantasy and mystery set in a big city.

Seán | 602 comments Foundryside is a recent recommendation. All set in a city, clear class-divide, and an pretty interesting over-arching story.

The City & the City is definitely gritty, but is more of a police-procedural with some weirdness thrown in.

The Land Across is a....strange one. Less on the gritty side and more on the weird side. Probably not a great recommend, but I'm just looking through my bookshelf and it popped out :)

They're just a few that came to mind!

Yes - definitely yes - I just finished it a couple of days back and it's now in one of my favourite series ever.
