I read “The Song of Achilles” by Madeline Miller. I don’t ever read mythology (aside from homeschool texts for my kids), but I did enjoy the story of this book. It was an insider’s look at the Trojan War and especially events leading up to the war in the lives of Achilles and Patroclus.

Miller, continuing in the same world, published Circe last year, which has been very popular with both readers and reviewers.
For this category, I read Storm Front, the first book in the Dresden Files, by Jim Butcher. Harry Dresden is a wizard PI in Chicago who investigates crimes that have not been committed by the average human. After checking it out, I discovered it was a short-lived series on the SyFy Channel, so I may use it for that category instead. I enjoyed it, even though I usually struggle to get through magical fantasy.
