This Mortal Boy and Poūkahangatus are exceptional. I've read a lot from this list. The Imaginary Lives of James Pōneke is on my to read list though.
I've only read This Mortal Boy which I really enjoyed. Started Mazarine but wasn't in the mood for it.
The one I'm most keen to read is:
Birdstories: A History of the Birds of New Zealand

Completely hashed up my post.
The shortlist is out & Birdstories made the cut.

I loved This Mortal Boy, and passed it on to my mum who also thoroughly enjoyed it. I have James Poneke on my bedside table waiting to be read.
I'm very slow this year, but I have just started
The cover is every bit as gorgeous when in my hot, little hands as it looks on Goodreads.
I have only just started, but even though the cover also says "poems" it starts with fragments of prose. I'm not a fan of fragments (although these are really good) but will press on.

I could appreciate the ability, but I think I'm the wrong age group for this one. 3.5★

Oh my word, Birdstories: A History of the Birds of New Zealand I'm really keen to hunt out the other Ockhams in this category, as this is one exceptional book. Easy 5★

At a casual glance, I'm not feeling as excited as usual.
I do want to read
This Mortal Boy
Poūkahangatus (who could resist that gorgeous cover?)
Fight for the Forest (such an important issue)
Down the Bay
& depending on reviews maybe the Hudson & Halls one?
Anyone got any other recommendations?
I'll link the other books when I get home.
