I read this last year as part of the Persephone Readathon and really enjoyed it. Apparently it was so popular that two films were made from it: The Reckless Moment (1949) and The Deep End (2001) with Tilda Swinton.

I loved it too!

I remember reading it early last year and thinking how clever yet how it showed it's age. But then it would wouldn't it - thrillers from then would. I remember the black and white film of it too - way to scary for me at my tender years back then. I loved it as a book.
