Killian arrived at the class early in the morning to unlock the room and make sure that everything was set up for the class. To day they would be doing an over view of the class with an introduction to portal recognition. So they would need their portal, but he would leave it locked until it was time.
L showed up a little later....about ten minutes before class was supposed to start. She actually had to get help for dressing for the day because she wanted to at least try to look professional...something she still hadn't mastered even at her age. Honestly, she was surprised she'd made it on time.
"No," L answered, shrugging a little as she went over. "But I don't get a choice in that, do I?"
"Not really. You look nice though," Killian told her.
"Students should be here soon. As long as they don't get lost."

"Thanks," L said and smiled a little. She actually tried to look good today so she would take the compliment. "I didn't get lost, so...that's a good sign, right? Of course, I've been here before."
"Maybe none of our students are punctual? Or at least....not eager?" she suggested. "I don't know though, this always sounded like one of the more interesting classes."
"Well, if they show up late for the first day, O reckon I won't be known as the most friendly professor," he commented roughly.
"Oh yay, then I can be the favorite," L joked. "I'm sure they won't be late. At least, not by much."

As if on cue, Green walked in shyly, rubbing his nose a bit. He felt the teachers glance at him and he froze up a bit, smiling awkwardly. “Am I late? I’m sorry then! I didn’t mean to be late,”
“You’re not late, bozo, you’re early. They likely are just surprised,” Jenny huffed in annoyance as she took a seat near the back. “Let’s just get this over with,”
Hikari smiled as she walked in a few minutes later, the PokeBalls on her belt sparkling. She took a seat near the front. She heard the class often took field trips and found herself wondering if they could visit Sinnoh. That was a very calm, nondescript place, right?

Killian nodded. "You'd be correct," he told Caden.
The young prince moved off to the side and frowned as people pushed in around him but just nodded at the professor and found a seat.
With a glance at his wife, Killian sighed. He was determined to not let his class turn out like another recent one he'd heard about.

"Find your seat, ladies and gentlemen. As soon as everyone is settled we'll begin," Killian announced.
Caden looked out the door one last time, hoping Isla would be here soon. He wondered if he should have gotten her anyway. He would save her a seat at least.

Scamp rushed through the door, panting as if she were about to faint. had the door been shut she very well might have kicked it down.
"I'm..sorry for my lateness, laddies!" she kept panting. "Me compass didn't work and so I had to foind a map."

Killian would have chuckled, if it wasn't out of place so he just smiled warmly at Scamp.
"You're close, but just missed the tardy mark by a hair."
He turned to the class.
"Since this is the first time anyone has had this class, how many of you got lost?"

Green quickly raised his hand. “But uh....I get lost quite a bit...” He blushed a bit. He ran his fingers along the wire of his headphones, still on his head.
Isla had ended up late and lost in her haste, but she was glad to have left a little earlier than needed since she didn't think she was too late. Still, the first class she was attending and she was tardy! Quite stressed and upset about it, she ducked her head in shame as she slipped into the classroom, notebook clutched to her chest.
Caden waved her over.
"So, the maps are a good idea to remind everyone about when schedules go out," Killian commented.

Isla smiled gratefully and slipped into the seat beside Caden, relieved that nothing had been said for her lateness.
"Alright, this looks like everyone. So let's begin," Killian announced.
"I am Mr. Dragomere and this is Mrs. Dragomere," he said, gesturing to his wife.
"Obviously, this is Other Worldly Studies. I'd like to start by saying that this class will be different from all the rest of your classes. The goal is have an understanding of the universe, or at least the worlds within it. Some of you have experienced travelling here with the full knowledge that you were going to school, while others arrived through a portal and were thrust into a situation of confusion and shock.
"You are here to learn. You are here to survive. And we're going to teach you how to make it through in whichever world you find yourself in."
He handed Lake a piece of paper. "Now, L here will pass a sheet around the room. Everyone needs to sign in to be accounted for. At the end of class, everyone must sign out. Do your best to make your signature legible and consistent. It is important."

Jenny rolled her eyes a bit. Already this class was starting to cramp her style.
Green nodded in understanding, reaching around in his bag for a pencil or pen. He was quite sure he had one....he may have gotten lost but at least he had a pen, right?
Hikari crosses her legs and adjusted her position slightly. The chairs in the room were really uncomfortable to her.

Scamp shot her hand up and flailed it aboutm "Oy, teach! Where'r the ink and quill pens? I can't write without 'em."
L took the piece of paper and grabbed a pen out of the cup on the desk before handing it to the first desk on the back row, figuring the sign in sheet could just make it's way forward.
"Use the pen," Killian said simply.
"Continuing, this class is hands on. It uses lessons from almost all of your other classes. You will be allowed to bring a weapon of your choice on field trips, as long as it means the safety parameters.
I will give each of you a worksheet at the end of class to fill out and turn in later," Killian said.

Jenny rolled her eyes again as she received the sign-in sheet. She totally didn’t feel like signing it...but out of all her other classes, the actual learning portion sounded....decent. So with a sigh, she quickly signed her name and passed it along to the next person.
Scamp looked around for a 'pen' and noticed some sort of object where she was sitting. She pressed it against the paper and saw it left a mark, causing her eyes to light up. She quickly scribbled along the paper, her handwriting barely legible.
Caden got the paper next and signed it neatly before passing it to Isla.
Killian turned on the projector while they finished

Isla had been taught never to sign anything, so she hesitated. But...this couldn't do much harm, right? After a moments thought, she signed it with her usual curling letters before passing the paper on.

“A few people haven’t signed it yet,” Hikari blinked in confusion, sighing her own name with a flourish. “You seem to be quite eager to start this class,” She handed the paper to Green, who signed his name awkwardly in half-cursive and half-print.
“Errr...I think I’m the last one...” He said softly, wondering if he could just use his powers to place the paper on the teacher’s desk.

Killian looked to L to grab the paper.
"Eager? No. I would just like to explain the importance of your signature."
"Eager? No. I would just like to explain the importance of your signature."
"By signing in, I am obviously able to take attendance. But it is more than that. You sign in, to mark you are here. And sign out, to verify you've returned," Killian said.
The projection flashed with a blue screen momentarily.
"Today we'll be learning about portals. Recognizing them, calling them, locating them, and going where you are supposed to."

"Part of today will be spend taking boring notes. But the sooner it's done, the sooner we can work with a real portal. Get out materials to take notes and we'll begin," Killian told everyone.
Scamp kept her pen close to her chest, fascinated by its clicking sound. She pressed the button rapidly, easily ammused by the noise as she readied her paper.
"Alright, Scamp," Killian said, finding her awful signature. It counted as long as he knew it was hers.
"I'm going to give you a choice, wait to click your pen until after class, or trade me for a pen that doesn't have one."
"I'm going to give you a choice, wait to click your pen until after class, or trade me for a pen that doesn't have one."
Killian chuckled. "Not a chance, lass. As long as we have an understanding not to click the pen repeatedly. Shall we begin?"
Killian smiled humbly.
"Alright. How many of you came through the portal? As in, you did not recieve an invitation."

Jenny remembered her own dreams were the reason she came to the school. She couldn’t remember anything about a portal, but it was still technically an invitation, right? She half-way raised her hand, unsure.
"Is that all? Really?" Killian said, surprised. "Well, if you came through the portal, you probably saw a physical metal gate and passed through it, leaving your world behind. That is an example of one of the portals used by the school. Did anyone arrive by walking in the forest? Suddenly being in an unfamiliar place? The mountains and surrounding forest are a special kind of portal that connect to a world that this one is close to."
Scamp had seen some weird forests but nothing with a..portal was it called? SHe kept her hand down.
"The rest of you were invited, correct? Meaning you got an invitation and took the airship to our world. The airship itself uses a multidimensional portal, a worm hole of sorts."
