Louise | 491 comments Boy this month went by quickly. It is already nomination time to choose our May book! May, when the birds sing, the sun shines and the flowers bloom. Cannot wait for that! So let's start nominating some books. I'm going to start with:

A Month in the Country

I know that The Enchanted April seems best for April, but I cannot help but think of it as more fitting for May in my neck of the woods. I'll nominate it!

Well, in reality if we discuss it in May we'll be reading it in April so sounds good to me.

Seana | 432 comments Yes, works for me too. I have been fortunate in having our March and April picks being things at the top of my own list, so am happy to let others suggest their favorite choices and just vote on those. but will add some if we don't have an abundance of choices later.

Linda I nominate:

A View of the Harbour
The Summer Book
Afloat
The Unknown Masterpiece

Bryan--The Bee’s Knees (theindefatigablebertmcguinn) | 52 comments I've heard so many good things about The Summer Book that I'd like to read it as well, but I'd have to scrounge up a copy somewhere.

message 8: by Seana (new)

Seana | 432 comments We read The Summer Book early on here and it was very well received. Not saying to dissuade but to encourage those who are interested.

Cordelia (anne21) | 22 comments I would Like to nominate Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky: A London Trilogy by Patrick Hamilton. Or if it is too long, we could just read the first part The Midnight Bell

message 11: by Christopher (new)

Christopher (Donut) | 48 comments I'll second The Old Man and Me and
The Unknown Masterpiece - this is Balzac, right? I was looking at my books, and I think I have this.
Also renominate Rogue Male.

Is that a nomination?

I better not yet--I don't want to nominate something I'm not sure of getting a copy of.

The Summer Book is wonderful, though, so it’s a good one to keep in mind.

message 28: by Louise (new)

Louise | 491 comments Oh dear. I just noticed the date. It looks like I got a little ahead of myself and put up the poll one day early. I was suppose to take nominations until tonight. I hope everyone is okay with the poll as it is?

message 29: by Antonomasia (new)

Antonomasia | 44 comments May is so early for The Summer Book. Plenty of other summer to read it in later

message 30: by Louise (new)

Louise | 491 comments And the winner is......drum roll.....The Summer Book

message 31: by Janet (new)

Janet (janetevans) | 63 comments And I already have a copy! By total coincidence, my IRL book group is reading The Summer Book in mid-June, so I will also try to participate in this May discussion as well, although probably not until end of May, as I like to read book group books right before discussions, to keep details fresh in my mind, and I may have to lead the IRL discussion. Great choice, even if I actually didn’t vote for this one!

message 32: by Louise (new)

Louise | 491 comments I love it when I can do two book clubs with one book! But yeah, it's amazing how quickly we can forget details.
