I'm going on a road trip this month and I'm driving through Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. What perfect timing.
I read American Kingpin: The Epic Hunt for the Criminal Mastermind Behind the Silk Road by Nick Bilton. The "mastermind" who built the Silk Road website lived in Austin Texas when he created it.Excellent book. Intriguing, masterfully written. 5 stars.
I am thinking of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, which has long been on my to-read list, or Silver Sparrow.
I have a goal to read as many Pulitzer Prize winners for Drama as I can. This topic is perfect for A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, the 1948 winner. It is set in New Orleans.
When I saw what the challenge was I decided it was time for a re-read of To Kill a Mockingbird. About a third of the way through right now, partially audiobook and partially regular physical book.
I've been kicking around the idea of reading The Siren, and it looks like it spends some time in South Carolina. That sounds like my pick this month.

i have a question can it be any book that is set the south or does it have be a book that's set in the in the 1800's or can we read any book we want as long as it takes places in the south.

I think I’ll re-read To Kill a Mockingbird. Huckleberry Finn is also one of my favorites.

It can be any book as long as it takes place at least partially in the South.

Finished my re-read ofTo Kill a Mockingbird. Still stands the test of time. Listened to an audio book for a good portion of it and enjoyed Sissy Spacek's narration.
I love To Kill a Mockingbird. it's one of my favorite books. I have been working on In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, now I have a good reason to finish.

If anyone is searching for a cozy mystery set in North Carolina, that is the locale of the Library Lighthouse Mystery series by Eva Gates. They really are fun to read.
I have finished A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams -- 1948 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, set in New Orleans. It was very good and I enjoyed it tremendously!
Ideas if you are still looking for something to qualify...The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd, in my top 5 books ever read.
The Southern Sisters Mystery series by Anne George, very funny, especially if you happen to know anyone from the South.
Lucky Strikes by Louis Bayard, a YA book, but this old gal still enjoyed it.
Those are my top three recommendations. Enjoy whatever you check out.
I read Persuasion: A Latter-day Tale for another group. It takes place in Virginia. Is Virginia considered a Southern State? If not, I have another book I can read.
Linda wrote: "I read Persuasion: A Latter-day Tale for another group. It takes place in Virginia. Is Virginia considered a Southern State? If not, I have another book I can read."Most definitely! West Virginia split off to fight for the Union, but Virginia itself was firmly in the Confederate camp, which means it automatically counts.
I read Silver Sparrow, which took place in Atlanta in the 1980s. It was a sad, but well written story.
I read Miss Dreamsville and the Collier County Literary Society, by Amy Hill Hearth. It's set in Florida, 1962. I really enjoyed it!
I have finished another book which meets this challenge:Merci Suárez Changes Gears by Meg Medina
It is set in Florida. This year's Newbery Medal winner, the book was great fun and a quick read.
Linda is our prize drawing winner for March 2019’s reading challenge. They read Persuasion: A Latter-day Tale by Rebecca H. Jamison.

March 25 is Pecan Day, and since the largest producer of Pecans is Georgia, followed by Texas I decided that the challenge this time should be a setting challenge. For your March challenge you must read a book that take place at least partially in the South.
You could read a historical romance novel like An Extraordinary Union by Alyssa Cole, or a contemporary novel like By Invitation Only by Dorothea Benton Frank. You can also read non-fiction book about something or someone that has strong ties to the South like The Magnolia Story by Chip Gaines.
Good luck!
