For March, our read-along will be The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory!

Excited to hear all your thoughts, especially when compared to The Wedding Date.

I liked both of these books, but actually preferred The Proposal.

I really enjoyed The Proposal. I had put off reading The Wedding Date because I heard such differing opinions on it, but now plan to get to it soon.

Yay! Just started reading it today. I enjoyed The Wedding Date, so I'm excited to see how The Proposal turns out.

So great premise right off the bat. Have you ever seen one of those jumbotron marriage proposal things and felt a little icky? For me, marriage proposal is a private thing, and besides being surrounded by thousands of strangers, then they are watching you too? During what is meant to be a special moment? Gross. What pressure.

Anyways, this is addressed in a humorously honest way. Nikole is very likable, and Carlos is pretty dreamy and I liked him much more than Drew in The Wedding Date. That was a good book with a great set-up as well.

The next by Guillory, The Wedding Party looks good, too, and I love the covers for all of the books - pretty.

I remember preferring THE WEDDING DATE, because the pacing of THE PROPOSAL didn't work for me at times. It's been a while since I've read either, though...

I liked The Proposal more than The Wedding Date (just barely) because Carlos is so great.
The heroine felt a little too immature, at least as far as romantic relationships go. I wish she would have told Carlos about her previous emotionally abuive relationship sooner.
I’ve said it before but the obligatory contemporary romance third act (view spoiler)[break-up (hide spoiler)] annoys the hell out of me. I know it’s a challenge to come up with a significant relationship plot device, but come on!
I really loved the female friendships. I hope we get books for both of the friends.

That is an interesting point, Beate. Often if I don't like a book, it is because I don't like the hero. One thing that I think he needed to work on being so protective of his family.

I liked him a lot more than the hero in the first book - he was just a little too clueless.

I wanted to like this book, because I really liked The Wedding Date, and the premise was interesting, but the "hero" came off as super misogynistic. (SPOILER) The fact that he throws her (totally justified) rejection of the actor dude in her face towards the end of the book, and accuses her of being cold and crushing men's lives because she doesn't instantly respond to his declaration of love? And never really apologized for that? Nope. Went directly from "not crazy about this book" to "the hell with this a**hole". To me, it just reinforced the ugly idea that women OWE men a response.

I just completed The Proposal. I thought it had a great balance of emotions and it did keep me very interested from start to finish. Definitely be interested to read more books from the author. Thanks for the suggestion. Onward to the next great book (hopefully)
