it would somewhat depend on who's doing it. Several books in the Sword of Truth series was filmed once, but it was too simplified/sanitized and appeared to be meant for children. I wouldn't wish that on another book or series of books. The original Dune from David Lynch was flawed, but with flashes of brilliance, and should have been 3 movies (the reverse of what Peter Jackson did with The Hobbit)
Kingkiller Chronicles and Wheel of Time are already in the process of being adapted.
Remnant Population is a possibility with the added benefit of being a role for an older, non-white actress (could have Oscar potential)
The Dresden Files Collection 1-6 and the rest of the books could make a good series.
I still yearn for the day ALL the Narnia books are adapted for screen. The old BBC stuff got to the Silver Chair, and the theatrical releases only made it to the Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Apparently ONLY making several hundred million profit isn't worth the effort in this billion dollar age.
Of any book, A Study in Scarlet, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I’ve been waiting on it for over 30 years since I first read it. Sci fi, tough, but probably When the Sleeper Wakes by HG Wells.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Study...
and a lot of those are available on amazon.com etierh as Prime Video or as a DVD:

of course they're rather old...but the two recent Sherlock series contain loose adaptations
I would love to see a movie series based on Jack L. Chalker’s Well World saga. It’s only in the past few years that it’s even been technically possible to do it outside of animation, because the characters are so diverse and amazing.
Would love to finally see a proper adaptation of the Dresden Files, preferably in the Sherlock format with a season consisting of three 90-120min films. Which would make one episode roughly equal one book.Pretty much the same goes for Simon Beckett and his David Hunter series (The Chemistry Of Death etc).
Regarding stand-alone films I'd love to see adaptations of My Sister, the Serial Killer and Dead Lake. Especially Dead Lake had such a great visual, it would make a gem of a horror flick.
In SciFi I'd love to see a film version of Wasp. If possible done by Edgar Wright.

I haven't seen dune I plan on seeing it this summer as I have many of the books from the 60's up until the 2000's, yet I haven't read any of them which is so funny. Anyways about that, the director Denis is making it and the cast is really a lot with big names, so it should be interested in seeing it.

I can see why you would say that about the wasp. Just looking at it's plot, then thinking about how edgar wright makes movies like action but with some humor like baby driver, I can see how that would work.

As a fan of scifi it would be nice to see N.K. Jemisin books turned into a movie.

725 million is a lot of money especially for a first movie, I think if it was to come out today it would make a lot more money.

I would love to see an adaptation of the Sandman Graphic Novels, BUT it would have to be animated...
CBRetriever wrote: "The Dresden Files Collection 1-6 and the rest of the books could make a good series."That's already been done, a single series back in 2007.

You can probably find it on streaming service somewhere. I picked up the DVD boxed set at a discount store for $5 and it's well worth watching.
I'd like to see The Dragonriders of Pern adapted. The first novel is Dragonflight by Anne McCaffrey. The latest about it I have seen is that Warner Brothers optioned the books 2014 but have not been able to get a project together.https://comicsverse.com/adapt-the-dra...
Seeing what they did with the dragons on Games of Thrones Season 8, Episode 1 on April 14th shows that the adaption could be made, though it will take a lot of money to do it.

The White Dragon is one of my all time faves and after seeing Dragonheart back in the 90s I figured they could finally do it justice. But they’ve been talking about this for 30+ years now, so I doubt it will ever happen.
The Stars My Destinationor
The Demolished Man
My jaw would hit the floor if they could make any of those work in a tv-series or movie format
The Once and Future King by T.H. White, a miniseries, if it hasn't been already. Don't think it has.
Although the more I think about it, as stoked as I am that books like Wild Seed are *finally* being turned into a TV series, and as much as I’d love to see Pern and the Well World realized, I do think we ought to adapt the work of living writers, so they get a chance at seeing their visions come to life. Especially ones who haven’t had their turn.So to that end, I’d like to see...
The Golem and the Jinni. An urban fantasy set in NYC at the beginning of the 20th century, it would be cool to see that. Plus it’s relevant to current events,
Station Eleven would actually be fairly cheap to do, as it’s a post-apocalypse tale. No fancy sets or expensive effects.
Ex-Heroes is superheroes + zombies. It’s the perfect combo platter!
Both recent group reads Brown Girl in the Ring and Here and Now and Then would work really well as movies, the first a sci-fi/mythology horror, and the second a sci-fi thriller. They both have fairly straightforward plots and would translate well into very interesting movies.
ML, that would actually be really great, if it were a series on a Game of Thrones-size scale on cable or Netflix. King Arthur adaptations can sometimes be hit or miss, especially recent ones. It looks like Disney is actually planning a live action remake of Sword in the Stone, which seems unnecessary. It was decent back then compared to many other Disney films, but in this day and age, a King Arthur or Robin Hood musical doesn’t seem right, by which I’m assuming it’s the same music as the original. Still, I prefer even that to Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, or Little Mermaid (not a fan of Menken’s musicals. I’m in the minority, I know).

How about TV series?

Could not found any recent development though.
Now that I have seen how well Marko Kloos' story could be adapted for TV based on the episode in Love, Death, Robots, I'd love to see Terms of Enlistment and rest of the Frontlines to be in Netflix. More military SF on TV, please.
colleen the convivial curmudgeon wrote: "I would love to see an adaptation of the Sandman Graphic Novels, BUT it would have to be animated..."I'd love to see it mixed media, with different styles for different characters and different planes; animated, CGI, claymation, puppets, Dave McKean collages and live-action for the waking world. And in some cases you might need to mix them all together, so a puppet Marv Pumpkinhead talking to a live-action dreamer in an animated dream-world.
Some people may groan at this idea, but I'd love to see David Weber's Honor Harrington series made into a series similar the The Expanse. I read once that someone had the rights to this property, but it's been years since I heard anything about the project
I really enjoyed the adaptation of Stephen King's The Gunslinger. Idris Elba made a great Roland Deschain, and much to my surprise/joy I thought Matthew McConaughey did a good job as the Man in Black. I would really love to see them make some more. The next one The Drawing of the Three would be interesting, as I keep wondering who they would get that would do justice to the complex but wonderful character of Odetta/Susannah.
Would love to see an adaptation of Hunter's Run done by Denis Villeneuve. Also, a series based on Joe Abercrombie's First Law Trilogy and a movie based on Best Served Cold. I'm just not sure who should helm the movie. I think Chad Stahelski and David Leitch of John Wick fame would certainly work wonders with the action scenes but I'm not quite sure if they could pull off the more serious story beats.
Legend by David Gemmell is one of my all-time faves, and I'd love to see it (or any of the other books in the Drenai series) adapted for visual media,

But they'd likely want to rename it as people would think that it's a remake of Legend starring Tom Cruise and Tim Curryhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legend_...

Heh. Nobody who didn’t see that when it came out remembers that flick.
I was at a dinner party a few weeks ago and mentioned that it was the 30th anniversary of the release of Heathers. No one at the table knew what I was talking about. Heathers!

The edition I own is called Against the Horde. Still, maybe a bit UKIP...
Paul wrote: "The edition I own is called Against the Horde..."Yes, it was originally published in the UK as Against the Horde: Volume I of the Drenai Trilogy in 1982. It was re-released in 1984 as Legend for international publication.
I read the Bartimaeus trilogy when I was younger and have been waiting for the movie ever since. A series would also be nice! It's so funny!
I think Kings of the Wyld and its sequel would make a fun Netflix series. I would want to see them be just over the top comedy, leaning heavily on the musical references, like that video game Brutal Legend with Jack Black. They could have different metal and rock icons guest star in each episode. IT WOULD BE AWESOME!!! COME ON NETFLIX, JUST DO IT ALREADY!!!
When the Sleeper Awakes, by HG Wells. One of his earliest books that hasn’t been turned into a film yet. I’d rather see it turned into a film than a tv show. I’m more a fan of films than tv shows.
@Don I second the notion for Great North Road by Hamilton as a limited series. I think Pandora’s Star/Judas Unchained would be a great trilogy of movies...
Dj, I love that movie but I didn't know there were books. The first one is reserved and waiting for delivery! Thank you so much for that great tip!
I think Jack Campbell's Lost Fleet series would make a good TV show. Probably to similar to Battlestar Galactica to be successful though.
