Six years ago federal agent Samantha Moon was the perfect wife and mother, your typical soccer mom with the minivan and suburban home. Then the unthinkable happens, an attack that changes her life forever. And forever is a very long time for a vampire.

Now working the night shift as a private investigator, Samantha is hired by Kingsley Fulcrum to investigate the murder attempt on his life, a horrific scene captured on TV and seen around the country. But as the case unfolds, Samantha discovers Kingsley isn't exactly what he appears to be; after all, there's a reason why he survived five shots to the head...

Ch 14 (24%) - (view spoiler)[ Oh man, I don't know how I feel about her husband. He shouldn't be cheating, that's certain, but I do understand how her "condition" might be scary and hard to deal with and may lead him to leave at some point. At the same time, I can't help but think if she had ended up say, in a wheelchair, after her accident, then I would think him reprehensible for straying or thinking of leaving. (hide spoiler)]
Ch 32 (50%) - (view spoiler)[ So one thing I am wishing that the author had explained by now is what is the status of these supernaturals in society. I mean, the detective and even the UPS guy seem to think she is a vampire and they believe they are real. But why does she think she has to hide it? It seems like the detective is pretty trustworthy and he is willing to work with her despite what he thinks she is, so what's the big deal? I just want it spelled out for me. (hide spoiler)]
Ch 50 (75%) - (view spoiler)[ the UPS guy!!!! But how did he know she was a vampire before he delivered that package? or was it just a coincidence that he stumbled on to her? (hide spoiler)]
Finished - (view spoiler)[ Who else thinks "Fang" is really Kinsley?? Me! Me! Me! I was also suspicious that the necklace might let her go out in the sun or something - I was expecting the author to finally describe her attack and she would realize that it was during the day....but vampires shouldn't be able to attack in daylight, blah, blah, blah. But that didn't happen. Oh well, I guess it would be cliche.

I liked the book. I think it was ok for a first book, and looking at the reviews it looks like the series improves after this one. I think the author had to spend a lot of time on Sam coming to terms with her vampirism, so telling about the crime that she was supposed to be solving kind of suffered a little. (It wasn't that exciting of a mystery is what I'm trying to say.) I'm willing to give the series another book or two to see what happens. I especially want to know what happens between her and Kinsley and if she ever meets any other vampires to learn more about her kind. (hide spoiler)]
