Marie For discussing The Road before we start reading. What expectations do you have? What are your concerns? What have you heard of the book? Etc.

This also means that there'll be no spoilers in this thread!

Marie I first read The Road last year, and it is probably one of my favourite books. It was pretty recently I read it, so I don't think I'll re-read it already, but I'll definitely join the discussion, and I'm excited to see what everyone thinks!

I saw the movie before reading the book, and it's one of my favourite movies, too.

Christopher (nomadpenguin) | 14 comments I happen to have to read this by the end of the week for my literature class, so I'm being super efficient with my reading. I wasn't really into Blood Meridian; I found the prose a little ponderous and it was hard to connect to any of the characters since they were all ultra-violent monsters. I'm definitely enjoying this one a lot more though!

Kurt (supremekurt) | 1 comments "The Long Walk" by Stephen King is one of my favourite books of all time, because, even though the title is derived from the contest described in the book, it is mainly just a long conversation between the main character and the other contestants.
"The Road" seems like it has the potential to do the same. To turn a literal journey into a metaphorical one by way of two characters conversing and exploring common themes. That the road ahead takes a background role to the characters' development and exploration of self. That it isn't about the end goal, but about what happens along the way. Along the journey. On The Road.

I just ordered it, so it should arrive in a day or two. Meanwhile I'll finish "Good Omens" and be excited about the idea of a second road-novel.

Ben | 22 comments Have not read the book, nor seen the movie. I just know that the story is supposed to be super-bleak, which is not among my favorite characteristics in a novel.

N.M. (nmbrome) I wated the movie a loooong time ago, so I'm glad I mostly forgot what happened.
