I picked Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine because of the movie version of it. The movie is one of my favorites because it’s about a girl who is forced to do things she doesn’t want to and all she wants to do is make her own choices. I definitely didn’t think the book would be so different from the movie. The biggest difference I noticed seemed to be that when Ella was told to do something and she would try to resist it put her in physical pain. Maybe they try to show it in the movie but not well. I actually liked this detail a lot because I feel like it showed just how much Ella hated having to do some of the tasks she was told to. Another big difference is that aside from her mother and cook she has no friends, in the movie she has one. I also really liked that in the book she sorta knows the Prince in a friend of the family way. It makes the story more fun. I fell in love with Char when Ella did in the movies but I think I fell in love with him before Ella did in the books. I know the book takes place in a magical land where elves and giants and fairies live but the letters he wrote her are so cute and the Ella in the book is far more timid. She worries that her curse to obey is result in the death of Char. She seems to see through people in the book. It was beautifully written and I kinda wish the movie followed the book more now. I alway say the books are better and in this case it was. They end up together happily ever after and it was adorable. Everything works out in the end and it was nice to read a heartwarming story like that.
