I've had my eye on this series for awhile. Do you recommend it compared to other mystery series? I do like historical fiction.
I'm a dedicated fan of this series. This is the 15th book. Like any series some books are better than others, but this series is fairly consistent. It starts with WW1 and has now continued to WW2. Maisie Dobbs has specialized training and calls herself a psychologist/investigator. It adds a different twist on typical amateur detective stories. The historical content is usually very interesting.
I'm so far behind on this series!! (I'm on #3 or #4?). NancyJ, I think you'd like it- it's a good mix of genres, and I always learn something about the era when reading them.

This is my favorite of the most recent books in this series. This time the middle aged Maisie Dobbs is investigating the murder of a female American war correspondent. The London Blitz is a nightly occurrence. Maisie and Priscilla add volunteer ambulance driving to their other responsibilities. Winspear is very good at getting the historical details right. This book looked at the importance of radio and newspaper reporting to the war effort. The American agent, Mark Scott is the attractive love interest, but he also provides a look at the international diplomatic situation before the United States entered the war. Winspear identifies high ranking American isolationists, including Joseph Kennedy the American ambassador to England at the time.
It’s worth reading Winspear’s blog for author’s notes on the inspiration behind her storytelling.
