Hello. I'm Elvina, This is my first time being a discussion leader for this group. I'm from Malaysia. Thanks for this opportunity and hope we have fun here! :DSo.. how many of you have read this book? Do you like this book or dislike it?
So here are the questions I would like to ask1. What do you think about the whole story?
2. Who is your favorite character? What do you love about them?
3. Do you think that this book is given any meaning to people's lives?
4. Have you guys watched the movie? In your opinion, which one is good? Book or movie?
5. What is your favorite quote in this book?
I really loved reading this cute romantic story. My favorite character was Will.
It was very meaningful book due to giving awareness to the community who has cystic fibrosis.
Have you guys seen the movie?
How does it compare to the book in your opinion?
Just finished! This was a cute story. There are some spoilers in my comment, so if you don't like spoilers, you might want to stop reading my comment (I can't figure out how to put a spoiler warning in my comment . . . I'm not the most tech-savvy girl).1. What do you think about the whole story?: As a whole, I think this story had some really meaningful parts (most of all when Will walks away from Stella as she recovers, post-surgery). But I did think there were some over-dramatized parts as well (I didn't think that Stella needed to almost drown to show the difficulty in choosing between life with new lungs and time with Will). I get why it was done, but really, it could have just been done at the hospital, like when Po died and Stella was distraught (and led to the walk that resulted in the rebellious walk in the first place). I did think this was an enjoyable read, as a whole.
2. Who is your favorite character? What do you love about them? I liked Will's character arc. I liked how he went from being tired of treatments that weren't working to wanting to live and ultimately being willing to walk away. He definitely had the most growth as a character. (I was happy that Stella did realize that it would have been stupid to not take the new lungs and that she said as much).
3. Do you think that this book is given any meaning to people's lives? As someone who overcame fairly significant health issues (not CF, but two months in a hospital and 3 brain surgeries), I think that this book can give meaning to peoples' lives. I feel that seeing parents struggle watching their kids battle something that they don't have and can't really do anything about was pretty realistic.
I LOVED this book!Though I really loved so many of the characters, my favorites were Will and Poe.
Will had such a spirit of adventure that I wanted to be alongside him sharing his joy of life, even as he was being robbed of it. He was so kind and loving, always putting others before himself.
Poe was the best friend, a truly precious boy. He made me smile and he brought every character to life through his own care and concern and love.
This book’s romance was not sappy, nor was the plot cliché, or boring. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed both book and movie. both are good. though there are some parts that I wished were there in the movie and especially the ending. Should do more justice. :D

I'm glad that you enjoyed reading the book. I agreed with your answer for question number 3, though. Parents just need to be strong for their kids. When they cannot do anything, at least be there for them.
It was sad. Have you watched the movie?

1. I felt that it was heavily influenced by The Fault in Our Stars. Overall I enjoyed it, even reading it in less than 10 hours with other things happening which is definitely an indication that I found it to be a good book. Unfortunately it lacked the depth it could have had given the sensitive topic and robbing it off a five star rating.2. Poe is my favorite character. I love how he knew that he needed to get involved in the relationship.
4. Have not watched the movie. Will try watch it within the next few weeks. The movie is the reason I got the book in the first place.
5. I have two:
"What if it doesn't work." "But, what if it does"
"She doesn't know what's ahead of her or why she's fighting. It's just... Instinct. Her instinct is to fight. To live."

I do like that this book dealt with an actual disease, as opposed to the made up one in The Fault In Our Stars, though. I will have to look up the author and see if she has CF, is related to, or is close to someone that has gone through this struggle.

I completely agree. I didn't really like the movie because of how they left out some really good parts. The book is always better than the movies.
I just finished listening to the audiobook. I really liked Po's character and liked Stella until she lost her mind about the lungs. Will's character showed lovely growth. I too picked up this story because of the movie, which I still want to see.
I have just joined this group, but I've read this book last month ad I don't think it counts anymore? anyways, i really enjoyed the book but i can't really see myself rereading (I've not watched the movie yet because it's coming out later on in my country)
1. As a whole, I enjoyed the story. When I first started reading it, I was unsure because I don’t normally read contemporary and I wasn’t sure if I was going to like Stella’s character. I’m glad I stuck it out because I ended up enjoying the story by the end.2. My favorite character was probably Will because I felt that he changed the most by the end of the book. I was afraid he was going to be just the stereotypical “bad boy” but I enjoyed learning about his backstory, and it helped me understand why he was acting the way he was at the beginning of the book.
3. I don’t suffer from cystic fibrosis nor do I know anyone who does, but I feel that having a story where the main characters discuss the difficulties of the disease is helpful in allowing those who have CF feel like they have a voice and to be able to see stories with someone like them as a main character.
4. I haven’t seen the movie (yet) but I find that books are usually better than their movie counterparts. I have been proven wrong before though, so we’ll see!
5. “If this is all we get, then let's take it. I want to be fearless and free," she says, giving me a look, daring me. "It's just life, Will. It'll be over before we know it.”
This book was a fun, emotional read. If you haven't read it I would definitely read it. If you haven't read it please click off because I'm going to have spoilers now. You have been warned.(view spoiler)That's it for my discussion post for Five Feet Apart.
All of you guys saying you haven't watched the movie yet, in my opinion I liked this movie more than the book, and that doesn't happen alot.the movie actually does a really good job of being just like the book, like almost down to every word. The acting is really good and overall the movie just impacted me much more emotionally than the book. Like on the last few pages of the book I shed some tears, but for like the better part of the second half of the movie, I was downright sobbing and I still cried in the car ride home. I really enjoyed it.
the ending in the book and the movie do have some differences, but I wouldn't say vastly different.
Honestly I haven't read a book in so long that made me cry like" the fault in our stars"Poe was my all time favorite character and it fucked me up when he died.
But I'm also obsessed with will especially after seeing the movie.
I mean come on...COLE SPROUSE
I cried like a baby through the book but I cried even harder sitting in that movie theater, it was so embarassing.
All you heard was me sobbing over the movie and everyone.
My sister also said "fuck you" to me through tears atleast 10 times then we got ice cream on the way home
I was waaay to invested in these characters and it was pretty cool to learn about a new disease as well. I had no idea what Cystic fibrosis until this book.
Amazingly written and I would read it again

I am guessing that the book is good?
I think the book was amazing. I listened to this as an audiobook. The narrator was amazing. It’s hard to pick a favorite, I would say Poe. He was very uplifting and stayed positive with his disease (and being surrounded by others in pain). I loved the book and movie. Haley Lu (Stella) acted wonderfully. Cole (will) did an amazing job as well, and as always haha. Moises (Poe) did a great job acting. The kid and me was so happy to see Cole and Moises act together because it brought me back to the Disney channel days lol. I would recommend the book and the movie. Both were very emotional and successful.
1. What do you think about the whole story? I enjoyed it. My daughter wanted to see it in the theatre and I knew from the previews it was going to be a tear jerker. I also knew the movie was began in production prior to the book being written, so I knew it would be fairly on mark with the book. For me, it was very much more intimate details of a life I had already known the outside life of. I knew someone that had CF and had passed away a 17. This was many years ago and I’m sure in 30 years treatments have changed vastly, but the dangers and risks remain the same for these kids. The limiting lifestyle the long periods of life lived in the hospital and the religious regiment of medication that was life saving hasn’t changed. My heart hurt watching my daughter see that in the movie, she hadn’t read the book prior and has never known anyone with CF. It was eye opening for her.
2. Who is your favorite character? What do you love about them?
They each had their qualities. Stella was trying to educate people about CF, she was also grieving for her sister but staying so strong for her parents and trying to be positive. She needed that control in her life. Poe, ever the optimist, having an outside relationship, trying to be normal as he could, skateboarding. Just trying to be a kid. And Will. Living under the pressure of a mother fighting not to loose her only son, but he desperately wants to be free to just live live, damn to consequences, but he doesn’t really seem ready to die, because he just wants to live, which if his mother had helped him do that just a bit, he may not have felt like he did.
3. Do you think that this book is given any meaning to people's lives? I think it gave meaning to people living with CF, it gave them a platform for people to understand what they were going through in a way they could grasp for once. I think it opened eyes up on kids that there is a reality there that some kids are here on this earth for just a short while, but their Ives are just as valuable and meaningful as anyone else’s. I think it could give perspective to some helicopter parents that sometimes you have to let go just a little on your child just a little and let them live, and that is a part of loving them too.
4. Have you guys watched the movie? In your opinion, which one is good? Book or movie? So, I typically view a book and a movie as two separate entities, but this us a different case. This book was literally written from the movie by the movie. There wasn’t as much artistic play that you get when you have a completed book and them they pick it apart to build a film appropriate story, where lines are rewritten so, this was just different.
5. What is your favorite quote in this book?
“You scare me Stella." I looked at him, frowning. "What? Why?" He looks into my eyes his voice serious. "You make me want a life I cant have." I know exactly what he means. He shakes his head his face somber. "That's the scariest thing I've ever felt.”
