I just went along for the ride and enjoyed what I could, and overall it was a fun read. It's set on the moon colony of Artemis, and the protagonist Jazz is a smuggler and all-around "bad girl" but with a high sense of business ethics. Yeah, you can imagine I rolled my eyes a lot throughout the book.

My overall feeling was that Weir was trying too hard, probably felt the pressure to live up to the bestseller that was The Martian, and caving under that pressure. The premise had potential, but I just kept thinking he was writing this with the movie version in mind. Kind of Armageddon lite, and I loathed the crappy science of Armageddon even while I loved the sob story. Unfortunately, though the science here was better, Artemis has no sob story to save it, just a sassy chick that goes over the top.

That doesn't mean the story was bad, but it could have been so much better, so it gets a nice, middle-of-the-road 3 stars.
