I felt it was defensive. I would have liked more details of how that situation was resolved. What ever happened to Eve? Also in the last book I thought Zoe mentioned she knew what happened to him and she heard about it while practicing law. She even told him she thought he got a raw deal. In this she acted like she didn’t know.
Me too, I wished there was more about the resolution to that case. I remember that his ex was mentioned in the last book, but I don't remember the details. His actions were defensive and weren't domestic abuse. She accosted him in his bathroom in his home. She was a whack job.
I thought his actions defensive, too. If Clay wanted to hurt her, she would have been seriously injured.
Laura, in the last book, I thought Zoe had access to the public records related to the divorce. The domestic violence charge was a sealed police record. I never got the impression that was included in the decree because the charges were dropped.

I don’t remember, but I thought she even said something about how crazy Eve was in the last book too. I may have to look back.
