Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder also known as OCD is characterized by obsessions and compulsions that take up at least an hour a day, but usually longer, and cause significant distress. It equally affects men, women and children of all races, ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds. In the United States, about 1/40 adults and 1/100 children have OCD.
Obsessions are persistent, uncontrollable thoughts, impulses, or images that are intrusive, unwanted and disturbing. They can cause anxiety or discomfort that significantly interferes with person's normal life. For example, a person who doesn't have OCD is able to filter out recurring thoughts about germs, But people with OCD who are obsessed with germs can’t stop thinking about being contaminated and may even avoid going into public places.
Medication and therapy can help this 'phobia' a bit.

There are many weird phobias out there in the world. Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia happens to be one of them. Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia is the fear of long words. Irony. The following symptoms this phobia gives off are; Extreme fear, shaking, dry mouth, breathing rate grows faster, headache, dizziness, nausea, and panic attacks.

Abigail (abi_cook) Claustrophobia
Claustrophobia is categorized by a chronic and unreasonable fear being trapped in a small or enclosed space. It is classified as an anxiety disorder. People with claustrophobia also frequently experience a related fear of suffocation. Being in a small space can cause people with the issue to fear that they won’t be able to breathe, and for this reason, people with claustrophobia sometimes experience fear in settings that don’t seem enclosed or frightening. People with the issue may experience extreme anxiety, panic attacks, difficulty breathing, profuse sweating, and difficulty concentrating when they are in a small space. Claustrophobia is one of the most common phobias, with about 5% of the population experiencing it to one degree or another.
Claustrophobia can be treated by counter-conditioning and exposure therapy work by gradually exposing people with claustrophobia to triggering circumstances to help them build a tolerance and learn coping mechanisms for their fears.

Nyctophobia, or fear of the dark, is one of the most common phobias that is found in children. In many cases, childhood nyctophobia passes as the child grows older. In older children and adults, however, nyctophobia can become crippling.
If you have a phobia of the dark, you are likely to become nervous in any darkened environment, sleep with a nightlight, be reluctant to go out at night, experience an increased heart rate, sweat, shake and even feel ill when forced to spend time in the dark. If your nyctophobia is severe, you may attempt to run away from dark rooms and avoid being outside at night, and become angry or defensive if anyone tries to encourage you to spend time in the dark.
The treatment for this phobia is therapy.
