PtP - Space Monkey Mafia
1. Introduce yourself to your team. Definitely let your team members know where you are from. This is a 'nice to know' when categories are announced and when team-mates can expect other members to post their book choices.2. Pick a Team Captain. The team captain will track the books read by the team and double-check that your book selection complies with the rules - eg make sure that the selection and completion posts are as per the formatting and information requested below (msg 3).
Anyone is free to ask questions in the Q&A/Announcement thread - here. If you are unsure, please ask.
Once a Captain has been decided, the Team Captain should reserve a couple of posts in this thread to track their team's book selection and completion. (Alternatively they could convert one of their chat comments to the tracking post/s.)
3. Name your team. This is not mandatory, but it is fun. Given we are an open/public group with no age limit, so please make sure any chosen name is smart, not smutty ;)
Please PM your name to Jane(PS) by 10 September.
4. If you have a private profile, please 'friend' your team-mates. This is really important, because without this, your team-mates can't see your shelves to select a books under option 2.
5. Please post your book selections/completions in the format provided below. (This format is also posted in both the Q&A and Sign-Up threads.) We need to know the week that each book corresponds to, the page numbers, and how the book qualifies including links to lists/shelves (where applicable), etc. I can't stress this enough. When in doubt - link it*!
* please don't link to your review in your completion post - reviews in your completion posts should be included in full in that post.
You don't want to start reading a book and then find it doesn't meet the requirements because some information (eg page count or theme link) was missing from your original post.
I will be monitoring this and your book will not be considered complete until I am satisfied that your selection and completion posts comply with the format rules of the challenge.
Remember - you can ONLY change your book selection in the week that the theme is called.
6. You MUST check in with your team each week, ideally once the theme is announced. Please let your team know if you except to have spotty communication or are on holidays or having an operation.
7. When you post the completion of your book, you must post a review; enough for us to know you have actually read the book. Please don't link to a review. You must post the review in this thread.
8. Re-reads are allowed but you can't read the same book twice within this challenge.
9. There is no prize for the winning team - bragging rights only :)
10. Each week, the theme will be announced in the Q&A/Announcement thread. The full list of themes announced during this round will be maintained in msg 1.
The Rule on the Pass Option
* Each team can only have ONE member using their pass each week.
* Each member can only use that pass once each 5 weeks.
* This means that one or two team members (dependent upon the size of your team) will miss using a pass in each 5 week block.
* No-one can use the pass option in the last week of the challenge.
* In the final week Option 2 has altered and I will be allocating each team another team from which their book selection must be chosen :)
Key selection and completion post information. You must have ALL elements in your book posts. For the initial selection post Option 1 I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
How the book qualifies - please insert a link to the qualifying bookshelf/list.
If the theme is based off the bookcover or a letter in the title etc, please just repeat the theme.
For the initial selection post Option 2 I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
Name of the team-member, their star rating, the date they read the book.
For the completion post I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Rating (1-5)
Review
Please DO NOT CHAT in these selction/completion posts. It needs to be super clear.
If you 'waffle' about your decided book - please REPOST your selection once you decide. DO NOT go back and edit your waffling post.
I'll be tracking each team's progress separately, using the Captain's summary in each team's thread to check for accuracy.A summary chart will be posted in the last week to let teams know their progress against other teams :)

Hello team I am sure I know Katie. I am a gay man from Milwaukee WI (so Central US Time) and while I primarily read M/M I will read almost anything that is well written and doesn't have tentacles. I hope someone else will be captain. for a team name the only thing that come to mind is Seventh Heaven.
Checking in. Hi all. I have no time and no desire to be captain, all extra time I have will be spent with my nose in a book, ereader, or laptop screen reading to my hearts content. As for a team name maybe something that includes the words:
bookworm(s)
bibliophile(s)
egghead(s){funny word with great meaning}
Book-Bosomed {describe someone who carries a book at all times}
Bibliophagist{means literally, a devourer of books}
expect of course we don't do it literally, well not in the way intended
Nerd girls
Just some ideas of words we can play with.
Don't forget to introduce yourself with a bit of background and perhaps what time zone you are in :) (Time zone helps so that members know when you are likely to be around.)
Hi everybody !I'm Poongothai from India. This is the first time I'm playing this, so I want to participate and not lead it.
I generally prefer to read romances. But I'm open to new genres all the time.
Suggested team names :
Cheeky Monkeys / Book Mermaids / Blue Falcons
Hello Teamies! ~ Hi Melissa :-) ~
Im from New Jersey, USA = EST, but travel often (right now Im in Turkey)
I would prefer not to be Captain
Team names?? 7 Deadly Readers, Lucky Seven, O-O-7, All Mighty Seven, Los Sietes
I am from Louisiana in central time zone. Wife and mother of 4. Work full time outside and inside of home. Spend as much of my time reading as possible with a little tv and music thrown in.
This was brought up in another thread, but if your profile is private you need to send friend requests to the rest of the team. My profile is open to anyone to look at.
Hi Roger and Logan! Good to see Roger's familiar face, and so nice to meet the rest of you! I'm in Pittsburgh, PA, so ET. I pretty much stick to romance and will read just about anything within that. I do tend to stay away from BDSM, though. I've played every round of PtP, so I'd be willing to captain if Melissa doesn't want to either. Though, Melissa, if you do, please just speak up and it's all yours!
Team names...Space Monkey Mafia, Search n Destroyers, The Hurricanes, Dusty Monkeys. That seems to be all the randomizer has for me today.
I am 34 soon to be 35 year old mother to a soon to be 7 year old severely learning disabled son and a 16 year old stepdaughter. Like Bethany I live in New Jersey (EST time). I read all different types of books but lately I've stuck with romance. I'm not a fan of erotica but I've found myself reading more and more of it (as long as plot is strong or actual love story I can get over multiple graphic sex scenes). I am a slow reader so I finish 1 to 2 books a week. I am not interested in being a team captain as I'm new to this.As far as names go I like out of ones suggested 0-0-7 and cheeky monkeys.
Thank you Katie, have you made a study of our shelves yet to determine what book you would want to read if you do not like the theme?
I haven't checked out anyone's shelves yet, but I'm going to take a look at them and the categories soon! :)
I converted my post in Msg. 5 to the tracker for this round. You guys will be able to confirm there that I've got the correct books down for you and that I catch your completion. This challenge is pretty simple. Just make sure you model your posts after Jane's examples in Msg. 3 and keep any chatter out of those posts.
I like Space Monkey Mafia, too! Anyone else want to add an opinion?
I definitely plan on check out Roger's shelves as M/M is one category of romance I haven't read much of. Roger any suggestions? I prefer plot/romance heavy over graphic sex.
Main one would be Keeping Promise Rock. I also like every thing I read by Andrew Grey. Would also recommend The Backup Boyfriend and anything by Kaje Harper. I will also provide you with a link to good beginning books for M/M newbies.link mentioned above: http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/40...
Jane (PS) wrote: "Katie also knows a bunch about MM - you could get lost in her shelves!"yep and Bethany has also read a bit of M/M
Jane (PS) wrote: "I know - but Katie is the 'bigwig' ;)"Oh most definitely! was trying to give Melissa more option as every reader even if they love plot over sex has diferent tastes.
My fav MM authors (who are also not big on the sex elements) are more urban fantasy... Adrienne Wilder (Seven), Eric Arvin, Megan Derr, Andrea Speed. I also love Mary Calmes but she has a bit more sex in her books; but not the over the top stuff. Some of my favs (outside the above authors) are:
The Ghost on My Couch
Quinn's Hart
I'll Be Your Drill, Soldier
The Curtis Reincarnation
Caught Running
Another series even though it is more fantasy than romance but there is romance is the nightrunner series by Lynn Flewelling
So we have three votes for Space monkey mafia and Katie seems to be our choice for Captain. if all team can get their names and captains picked we might get our first theme super early as in Monday.
I second that rec for I'll Be Your Drill, Soldier. Madeleine Urban and Abigail Roux are a good team to start with. Caught Running and Warrior's Cross were two of my first m/m books.
If you're looking for less graphic sex, then I'd suggest checking out Megan Derr.
If we can get one more vote for Space Monkey Mafia, that will make it a majority and we can get a team name up. :)
I'm not a fan of graphic sex in general but I'm not opposed to sex scenes. I just hate when every 5th page is a sex scene. I like there to be an actual story somewhere in there. I am going to check out all of the suggestions you guys have given me.
So am I ready to go! and I am more of an I will pick a book when I know what theme/category is picked challengee for challenges like this,
I'm with you, Roger. I'll choose what to read the day the categories are called. This first one will be on Monday! Just 2 days until we get going. :)
It is now official all teams are named and have a captain we get a Monday theme! thank god I have my replacement kindle!
Melissa wrote: "First two weeks will be slow reads for me because I have two other teams to read for until one ends"That is OK especially since we will have 11 days for the first category.
Roger - president of NBR United - wrote: "Melissa wrote: "First two weeks will be slow reads for me because I have two other teams to read for until one ends"That is OK especially since we will have 11 days for the first category."
Yeah I'm happy about that. I need that extra time :)
