July 2019 Game: Book Battles
Jane Eyre, hands down. I've re-read this classic so often! But I could barely finish Wuthering Heights. I did not like the unhappy ending of it.
Anne of Green Gables or
Polyanna
I choose Charlotte's Web, a classic that I read as a child and read to my kids. Babe was published after I became an adult, and I haven't read it, but I’ve seen the movie.
To Win Her Heart OR
Stealing the Preacher
I choose Thin Ice, although I haven't yet read it; I've read and enjoyed other Irene Hannon suspense. I've read Don't Look Back and didn't like some things about it.
To Win Her Heart OR
Stealing the Preacher
Vendetta - There were several things about Buried Secrets I personally didn't appreciate, whereas I really enjoyed Vendetta.
or
Love Finds You. I haven't read it yet, but have added it to my TBR list.
The Trumpet of the Swan or The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
The Trumpet of the Swan or The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe- read it 4 times and still enjoy it as much as when I first read it back in 5 grade...many years ago!
Of Mice and Men or
The Grapes of Wrath
Macbeth. Son #1 and I went to see Macbeth performed during the local Shakespeare festival. It was great, and a little startling when an actor came running down the aisle right beside us, brandishing his sword. 😄 I read the play in 2017 and enjoyed it. I've seen Romeo and Juliet as a movie (I think two different ones) and didn't like it. I think I read the play for a high school English class, but I'm not sure. I will probably read it (again?) someday since I eventually want to read all of Shakspeare's works.
OR
I would pick The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond
A Spoonful of Sugar: A Nanny's Story or
Minding the Manor: The Memoir of a 1930s English Kitchen Maid
Lad a Dog (When I was a kid and teen, I read every Albert Payson Terhune book I could get my hands on! Well, I also read all the Marguerite Henry books as well.)
Kidnapped or
Robinson Crusoe
No clear winner here, both books are excellent in their own ways. But I'll say Christy for an answer.
The Lord of the Rings or
Phantastes
Tough choice, both are great! I guess I will go with though Ben -Hur
Bridge to Terabithia or A Wrinkle in Time
Oh both are great children's books but I do love Mary Poppins.
A Star Is Born: Judy Garland and the Film that Got Away or
Brass Diva: The Life and Legends of Ethel Merman
