So forget all the reviews where everyone says this story is like a version of Harry Potter but for adults. It's not, yes there are a few comparisons but if that's why you are going to read The Magicians then just stop now and go read HP instead.
Over all I really did enjoy most of the characters, some I'm hoping get more story bits in the later books. Everyone seemed realistic enough and considering the amount of people in the book everyone got some page time. I really liked that the main character, Quentin Coldwater, was a depressed character. My favourite character though would have to be Josh, he was just brilliant in all his scenes.
Also something else noteworthy was the pacing in this book. Bam just like that 5 years of Breakbills done in a handful of chapters! Not what I was expecting at all and it was nice not to have to sit through all the classes and study sessions of a collage student.
