(Chapters 9 - 12)

Hello, what are your thoughts on these chapters?

Nico (nicoreads) | 43 comments Nice shadowy expressions--"It was a phase"--"I've been through all that"--and don't forget the blessed word "Adolescent"

I had to quote this because while it may be used here chiefly in a moral/religious sense, people do have a tendency to blame vices on how old they were at the time, or that it was a phase. Even some politicians who have gotten caught with their hand in the cookie jar want to blame their age at the time.

These chapters were a little less humorous to me and at times a bit too serious and even borderline preachy even though it is satire.

I did enjoy the newly added demon name of "Triptweeze." Somehow that's magnificent. Haha.

I absolutely agree with you. It does raise some interesting points but I also felt like these chapters were getting more serious and not as entertaining.

I am interested to see where this goes.

I also am finding it interesting that although this book is not new at all, a lot of the themes discussed (like the one you mentioned in the quote) are still very relevant today.

Nico (nicoreads) | 43 comments Luckily, from around that point on it seems to get more entertaining again. I agree that this book has "aged well" and that it's still relevant. Given that it was about WWII, it's maybe even more relevant than ever when you pause and consider how many wars have elapsed and/or are in the works currently since the publication of this book. I also wonder as this was dedicated to Tolkien if this wasn't based on some of the discussions that Lewis and Tolkien had about the war.

Yes, I think that is true
