Team Vesuvius Vamps
Hello team! I am excited about this challenge. Which categories work best for you all on the list? I have ideas for #4, #6, and #10 so far. I'm trying to figure out #1, but I have no idea how to do that besides sifting through GoodReads.
I think where the crawdads sing is a debut novel for #1. We read that a few months ago in my book club. It was pretty good. I’m in the app and can’t link it right now. I’ll put a link up in a few. I wonder if there is a list on listopia of debut novels?
Oh, yes! What a good book! I read the challenge backwards! I meant #10, the one that is published on the 10th of a month. Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi would be a good choice too for #1 - although I haven’t read it. Do any of the tasks look appealing for you?
Lol, I was looking at it and was wondering if you meant #10 or #1. I have ideas for #9 (9 characters) and #5 (first published in 1950s). I think the one with 2 authors might be an easy one too, anything by James Patterson has 2 authors and they are easy reads. The trilogy Task has me stumped.
I am still thinking of names tooVesuvius Vamps
Readers of Fire (Like the Ring of Fire?)
Basalt Babes
Crater Readers
???
Yes! I can think of books for debut novel, the audio version book, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9, 3 and 10 have me stumped!
That is 3 and 10 have me stumped! (Not the rest :)I just emailed for the Vesuvius Vamps for our name :)
I may be without email from August 5-12... so if we can decide on who’s tackling what before then, that would be great for me :) That way I’ll be ready to roll!
I'll start checking the books I have to see if I have any debut novels I think I mightIf I'm right and Carrie is Stephen King's debut novel I own it I know it was the first novel he had published
Carrie was Stephen King’s debut novel! I have been going back and rereading all of his books, unfortunately not all in order, but I did start with Carrie!
My book that I want to use for number 9, has a dog and cat on the cover, those are carnivorous animals, right? It is also number 11 in the series, so she has 7 books published on Goodreads. It will work for multiple tasks if I need to switch it around.
Well they will eat meat so I would think they are carnivorous but they also eat grass so maybe they count as omnivorous? Do we wanna each list the numbers we know we have at least an idea for to make sure we have all the tasks covered with ideas then we can work on figuring out a plan of attack for them
Good idea, Trina.I have a good idea for 9 (a book with 9 characters)
For 2 (a book with 2 authors)
I’ll see what’s left and go pester a librarian:)
And I think cats and dogs are carnivores. My cat only eats grass to hack up hair balls more efficiently....
And I just found one on my TBR list that was published on the 10th of a month!!! So I could do 10 :)
Awesome Melissa!Well I know I own books for 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
So I can fill in any gaps. Then we can work on planning out the safezone reads
Sorry for the late response everyone! I was traveling until late this afternoon. Here are some ideas I have from my stash:
1 - author's debut novel - After The Flood by Kassandra Montag (I have an ARC and it looks to be her first novel)
3 - Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson - can someone double check me on this one? It looks like it started a trilogy and then expanded but I could be wrong. Or the Mortal Instrument series I believe was only supposed to be a trilogy.
5 - The Old Man and The Sea by Ernest Hemingway was published in 1952- I have a copy
6 - City of Heavenly Fire #6 in the Moral Instruments series (and I really need to get this read and off my shelf)
7 - author that has at least 7 books on goodreads - I could do a book in the Michael Connelly series I have been reading
Let me know what you guys want me to cover and I will pull these out and save them for next month. :)

3 would work I just double checked it for you and it does appear according to google it was supposed to be a trilogy. City of Heavenly fire is awesome
Excellent! I’ll do 2 and 10 then, unless someone else wants them. I just ordered one that can fit 9, but I can read that anytime!
tomorrow I'll put up a suggested list for who to read what for the countdown then we can fine tune it. I don't think we add the books to the spreadsheet until they are completed since only completed books count
One of us can make a list on this thread for who is reading what task. Of course the person who makes that list will be the only one who can edit it. Looking at the first 10 tasks again and the books I have, I have one book that i can use for 7, 8, or 9
A book for task 7
A book for task 6
A book for task 5
A book for task 2
Hopefully between the 4 of us that covers the safe zone tasks!
So what I think will work let me know opinions 1. Trina- Carrie
2. Melissa W.- Welcome to Night Vale
3. Angela- The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
4. Trina- Nightmares and Dreamscapes
5. Melissa- The Haunting of Hill House
6. Angela- City of Heavenly Fire
7. Melissa- Letters in the Library
8. Trina- Lone Wolf
9. Melissa- Old Haunts
10. Melissa W.- Spinning Silver
I'm currently searching for a 4 but if anyone knows of one that'd be great. I figure depending if any of us end up having a book that the audio has 4 narrators then they can have 4 then depending on who gets 4 will decide who gets 7. I didn't wanna assign a 3rd book to Angela cause I know that Heavenly fire is long and I wanted to be sure you had time to finish the ones assigned. I'm going to double check the book I plan to use for 8 just to be sure it hasn't been borrowed from my library on me lol then I'll add it.
*Edit*- I found one for 4 and thankfully I own it so I've assigned 4 and 7. Again if anyone wants things changed around let me know
https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...This list may help with multiple narrators. Of course it does list books with 2 and 3 narrators as well as 4.
Melissa wrote: "Starting from the top of that list, The Help was the only one that I found so far with 4 narrators."Thanks Melissa I found one so updated the list. Let me know what you think and if you know the books gonna read I can add them if you want. Let me know. I think we've got a real solid base going
This looks great. I am going to read Welcome to Nightvale by Joeseph Fink and Jeffrey Carnot for # 2 and Spinning Silver by Naomi Novic. for 10. I am a teacher, and it will be my last couple days of vacation so I hope to plow through them quickly. If you need me to pick up another book, let me know.
I can’t say I understand the next part completely, the safe zone categories, but I’m going to read over the directions again tonight and see what I can figure out.
Melissa wrote: "I can’t say I understand the next part completely, the safe zone categories, but I’m going to read over the directions again tonight and see what I can figure out."Awesome! I keep rereading them to try to make sure I understand completely. I know we do need to read a book read by another team during the challenge for safezone one so I've been checking to see if anyone has posted what they'll be reading to see if there is an L, A or V we can plan to read for zone 1

I think we can use a prior BOM as well if there is not a book that another team has read that one of us want to read.
Melissa wrote: "This looks great. I am going to read Welcome to Nightvale by Joeseph Fink and Jeffrey Carnot for # 2 and Spinning Silver by Naomi Novic. for 10. I have a “V” book if we decide to do the group 1 set of Challenges. I figure that may be one of the hardest letters. Looking back on previous BOM, there are quite a few that will cover the letter A.
Trina, thanks for taking in to consideration of how long City of Heavenly Fire is! I appreciate it. The list looks good to me. I am a pretty fast reader so let me know if you need me to fill in any of the other tasks. I don't mind at all! :)I also need to go and look back over the safe zone categories as I think I have some books that could fit.

We can each figure out a letter we can cover for safezone one.
Do we wanna decide now if we want to try for the other safezones or do we wanna play that by ear?
Angela wrote: "Trina, thanks for taking in to consideration of how long City of Heavenly Fire is! I appreciate it. The list looks good to me. I am a pretty fast reader so let me know if you need me to fill in any..."No problem Angela!
Melissa wrote: "We can always have them figured out, that way we’re ready to go once we finish the first part."Good Plan
I can do A and the bom we need for the LAVA spell out cause I literally just bought The Martian
Just so I make sure I pick the right book, you have to use the letter and it has to be a book that has been read by another team or BOM?
Angela wrote: "Just so I make sure I pick the right book, you have to use the letter and it has to be a book that has been read by another team or BOM?"I got the BOM covered so just has to use the letter
I'll start a list for the safezones so we know what we'd have coveredSafezone 1
L- Angela Layover by David Bell
A- Trina The Martian by Andy Weir
V- Melissa Valencia and Valentine by Suzy Krause
A- Melissa W. Amina's Voice by Hena Khan
Safezone 2
skipping
Safezone 3
A- Trina Presumed Dead by Angela Ruth Strong
U- Melissa W.
D- Melissa Sookie Stackhouse book by Charlaine Harris
I- Melissa W. Inkling
O- Angela Radio Silence by Alice Oseman
I'd like to read Amina's Voice by Hena Kahn. It has 208 pages, and I assume it has over the 25,001 word count needed for the contest, but how do I find out for sure?
