Does anyone have any preferences or ideas about the countdown stage?I think the one that is a planned trilogy but changed along the way might be one of the tougher ones. The other ones don't sound too bad!
Hi Carrie,
I sent a message to Cici asking her to let everyone know about your team thread but she may not be on GR's as much as you. If you haven't sent a message to your other teamies inviting them here you probably should- as they may not know the thread is up or how to get here if they are new to playing challenges.

Hey all! I agree Carrie, the planned trilogy is definitely the trickiest. I believe A Song of Ice and Fire series (Game of Thrones) was originally supposed to be a trilogy but those books are hefty. we'll have to do some searching.I'm good with reading for any category, i've been scouting out some options. If anyone else has preferences I'm happy to fill in the other slots.
Ooh I found this https://allthetropes.fandom.com/wiki/...
There are multiple series options. Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy (Dang, I JUST read this. It's quick and funny if anyone is interested), The princess diaries, The Wheels of Time, the inheritance cycle, Earthsea - there are a few more listed also.

There are quite a few options on there to consider. I want to read the GOT series but I don't think I would want to start it for this challenge lol!
Did you have any tasks that you know you wanted to do for certain?
GOT is a great series but you definitely can't speed through them. Thankfully there are some more manageable series on that list.I'll volunteer for the 1st published on the 10th of a month. I had Audrey, Wait! on my TBR list and it fits that. I can also do a book published in the 1950s.
Sounds good. I can take the one where the author has at least 7 published books for sure. I'll look to see what I have for others.
Leave the sixth of a series to me; The Bands of Mourning by Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn #6) will fit the bill.
I can also do "published on the tenth of a month"; The Amber Spyglass by Phillip Pullman should do the trick (it has 156,664 words, so it's allowed). I can also use The Subtle Knife, again by Phillip Pullman, for "a book by an author with more than seven published books" (it has over 90,000 words). Starting to get hyped for this :Dedit: Sorry, just saw that Jane already has one for the tenth of a month challenge. I'll save mine for a just in case situation.
Gavin, do you want to read the book for 10th of the month? I have no problem grabbing another slot if you were excited to read that specific book :)
I can do debut author!Gavin - I can also do #6 in series as well.
Let me look at the list & I'll update all. Does everyone have access to the spreadsheet? I "signed" up for the debut author slot.
Also... I'm working on the Google spreadsheet to make it editable & easier to use for all of us. I'll post later this evening.
JanEyre9 wrote: "Gavin, do you want to read the book for 10th of the month? I have no problem grabbing another slot if you were excited to read that specific book :)"Haha, thx, but no worries :) Plenty of other things to read, I'll go for what the group needs.
By the way, would His Dark Materials count as a series originally meant as a trilogy? If I remember correctly, it should have one .5 installment.
Jan - first published on the 10th of a monthwith at least nine characters (need to have a speaking part, do not need to be main characters)
Jan - that has a carnivorous animal on the cover
Carrie- written by an author who has published at least seven books (as listed on Goodreads)
Gavin - that is number six in the series
CiCi - that was first published in the 1950s
Jan - where the audio version has at least four narrators
that is part of what was originally a planned trilogy, but became a longer series (can include .5 books added later)
that has two authors (as credited on Goodreads)
CiCi - which is the author's debut novel
I made the list below just for the immediate visual so we could see what tasks were left. If i got anything wrong let me know or if anyone really wants to read a book for anything I claimed I'm happy to switch it up.
This should work for carnivorous animal, right?
The wolf is subtle in the background but it is there.
JanEyre9 wrote: "This should work for carnivorous animal, right?

I'm pretty sure it should count
Hey, quick question:When a book needs to have more than 9 characters, does that count absolutely everyone that talks?
I think there has to be at least 9 characters, so more than 9 is fine, and all 9 of them need to speak at some point.
JanEyre9 wrote: "I think there has to be at least 9 characters, so more than 9 is fine, and all 9 of them need to speak at some point."Alright, thanks for clearing that up.
Also, the His Dark Materials trilogy has three decimal (.5, .6, and 3.5) books. Would that count for the originally planned as a trilogy challenge?

Here's a link to an editable spreadsheet for our group. I've asked the Mods for access to the one they gave us, but haven't heard back yet.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
I have a lot of challenges going, so I like to plan as much ahead as possible.
Thanks for setting this up CiCi, I like to plan also.Gavin I'm not sure if those books would count for the trilogy since they aren't a 4th or 5th, etc. in the series. I think part of it depends on if the author planned on only writing 3 originally. Sorry, I'm not sure.
So the 3 categories that still need to be filled are--with at least nine characters (need to have a speaking part, do not need to be main characters)
-that is part of what was originally a planned trilogy, but became a longer series (can include .5 books added later)
-that has two authors (as credited on Goodreads)
I think the first won't be that hard to fill, lots of books have more than 9 characters. The trilogy is trickier - I'm not sure if Gavin's books would work (what do you think Carrie and CiCi) but there are a lot of options listed on that link from a couple days ago. I also found a few links that could help with the two author book
https://bookriot.com/2018/10/05/books...
https://offtheshelf.com/2016/09/the-m...

I'm wondering if this list will be helpful with our trilogy task.https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...
I’ll take the planned trilogy. I’ll read:Eragon
Christopher Paolini
It was supposed to be a trilogy but he added a 4th book.
(Unless someone else had their heart set on it 😊)
Hey everyone! The Mods have given us access to our original spreadsheet in Message 2 - please use that link going forward.I've migrated everything over & we are looking good for set-up already. I can't wait for this challenge to start!
Great, thanks CiCi!Gavin, do you think you know which other task you'd want to read for? Happy to trade any tasks if you prefer :)
Anyone have any strategy ideas for when we reach the safe zone?
What is everyone else's preferred reading method? I love to read physical books and make sure I do that at least a bit every day but audiobooks have become my go-to. Makes my commute go quickly and im able to listen for about 80% of my work day.
JanEyre9 wrote: "What is everyone else's preferred reading method? I love to read physical books and make sure I do that at least a bit every day but audiobooks have become my go-to. Makes my commute go quickly and..."Physical books, which you can feel and smell the pages :)

Nice :D
Gavin wrote: "I skimmed through the first couple of pages, and Phillip Pullman's The Subtle Knife should do nicely for the "9 characters" requirement. Unfortunately, I won't be much help in the two authors cat..."
Perfect!
Alright, something came up, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to use Goodreads, let alone participate in this challenge, in the foreseeable future, due to certain conditions of the country I live in (all residents of this country aren't actually allowed to use GR apparently). So I think it would be best to find a replacement for me, since I'm really not certain how this is gonna turn out. I really wanted to do this challenge, and I really don't wanna let go of GR, but... Sorry about this, guys, and I hope you enjoy the game :)
Carrie and Cici - do either of you have a two author book you'd like to read? If not I have a few I can do like The Royal We or Beautiful Creatures or Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch
Gavin wrote: "Alright, something came up, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to use Goodreads, let alone participate in this challenge, in the foreseeable future, due to certain conditions of the country I live in..."Sorry to hear this! I wish you well with everything.
I did post in the Find A Team discussion to look for a replacement.
I don't have a two author book at the moment, so if you'd like to sign up Jan - it's all you :)
Safezones - I'm cool with any options, but lean towards those that get us the most points. I was able to find a book that meets group 2, level iv. so I put it on the spreadsheet. We don't have any restrictions for that group, so I can read that one quick & we can work on group 1 or group 3 dependent on team preference.
Gavin wrote: "Alright, something came up, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to use Goodreads, let alone participate in this challenge, in the foreseeable future, due to certain conditions of the country I live in..."Sorry to see you go Gavin!
I don't have a 2 book author either so if you want to take it Jan, that's fine with me. I haven't had a chance to look at the safezone yet. I'll let you know as soon as I do!
Welcome to the team Delany!! Right now the 2 tasks that haven't been taken yet for the first round are -With at least nine characters (need to have a speaking part, do not need to be main characters)
and
That has two authors (as credited on Goodreads)
If those work for you then awesome, but if you prefer to take either my task of cover with a carnivorous animal on it or an audio with at least 4 narrators go for it and i'll nab whatever tasks are open. Definitely want you to have a category that has you reading a book you actually want to read :)
I just grabbed #6 in series because I do have a book that fits. If anyone wants to take it, that works too.I have 3 countdown tasks & 1 safezone group 2 task - total of 4 the first round.
I'm heading out camping tomorrow and won't have any cell service until Monday, just in time to start reading! I am fine doing any of the countdown stage tasks if things get shuffled around while I'm away. I just want to hold on to the first published on the 10th of the month task since I have the book ready for that one. I also found a book that works for one of the safezone tasks. it has a hot air balloon on the cover which I think works for the "read a book with something hot on the cover" part. Not as exciting as some covers I'm sure other people will read (lol) but it works and there's "lava" in the text.
Happy weekend all!
Actually something weird is going on and I can't edit the spreadsheet right now. I plan on reading The Twenty-One Balloons for the safezone task.
Group 2: ii task: (safezone)I can read:
Queen Bee Goes Home Again
Haywood Smith
61% red cover and author contains H, O, T
