Nicholas Zwarton iii | 11 comments Dont remember the Novel or author name. The book was about a group of attack trained dogs that are accidentally set loose in a small town. They start attacking and killing the populace. I remember one scene when an obese radio DJ was attacked after eating a pizza.

Is this set in the U.S., Britain, elsewhere?

message 3: by Nicholas (new)

Nicholas Zwarton iii | 11 comments The U.S I think. The main character is the trainer of the dogs. Can still remember the end scene.

Any of those ring a bell?

Here is a review from Kirkus:
Alex Bauer, a nice man if somewhat depressed by a personal life halfway between a former wife and a new student, adopts a stray dog, Orphan, who's everything a man's best friend should be. Not knowing that Orphan's a refugee from a nearby canine facility where they believe that ""pethood has been disastrous"" and they're Skinnerizing their animals as attack dogs. During the visit of one of Bauer's sons, Orph attacks him and then takes off for the woods where he leads a predatory pack, attacking cattle and a mother and child. The whole vicinity is mobilized with troopers and Bauer goes along with them to find Orph, gentle him with a word, and kill him with kindness. . . . You'll sit and stay all the way.

Do you remember anything about the cover?

It's not your book, (published too late) but it has dog attacks because of mutant virus: Dogs by Nancy Kress. It was good.

message 8: by Nicholas (new)

Nicholas Zwarton iii | 11 comments I wish I could remember more about the cover. The trainer was in his 40s I think, bald, and muscled. A self made millionaire. The dogs were either german shepherds or Doberman.

Here's a review I found because the GR one says this book is about osteoporosis??

"Coming as it does on the heels of Robert Calder's The Dogs (p. 21), this is just another runt-of-the-mill canine crisis. The pooch protagonist is a Doberman guard dog, Jake, who escapes to form a pack and take refuge in the Brown County State Park in southern Indiana--the stomping grounds of Mel Ryan, a former forest ranger who was unjustly fired for shooting a VIP's elk-attacking Saint Bernard. The motley assortment of mutts includes a Labrador retriever, a pointer, a harder, a collie, a beagle bitch in heat, and a boxer named Duke. The erstwhile pets kill some chickens, rabbits and deer before they become real pests and sic a group of fifth-graders on the playground. . . . Awfully expendable."

Thanks for the heads up about the problem with the description Kirstin. It's been removed, now we just need to find someone with a copy of the book to find out what the actual description of the book is.

message 11: by Nicholas (new)

Nicholas Zwarton iii | 11 comments In the novel, the attack dogs actually attack and kill the local dogs including a collie pup. I dont think it came close to the best sellers list.

When I was looking for a description of the book, there were a couple of sites that had the same 'Osteoporosis' one as GR. Odd.

I found a movie called "The Pack" from 1977 that had a scene with a collie pup. No mention of it being based on a book though.

Nicholas Zwarton iii | 11 comments Yeah, I looked up The Pack, sorry to say it wasnt it.
