Is anyone reading this one? I haven't picked up a copy yet. Have had a family issue and just no free time to speak of. I'll try to get a copy at the library today.
I thought I might re-read it (I read it back in high school - 40+ years ago) ... but I haven't even picked it up from the library yet.
It was 50+ yrs ago for me. I have ordered a copy of it and the next group read. Looking forward to both.
I'm still working on this one. Set it aside as I was reading 2 others that were so very depressing. Couldn't handle 3!

Me, too. I am going to finish it and start Anna Karenina. Another group is reading it now. I was going to skip it, but thought what better time. :-)
I am really having a hard time with this. Not very interesting. I don't remember feeling that way before, but to be honest I don't remember much about it at all. I am over half done and hope to finish this week. I find the idea that their jobs are to make any idea true by abolishing anything that states a different version of history. It's mind-boggling to think of all they have to do to change books, etc.
1984 by George Orwell – 4**** Classic dystopian science fiction, written in 1948 and imagining a totalitarian society where Big Brother watches your every move and the ruling party controls all information. The thing that I find most frightening about this world that Orwell created is how very plausible it is. I couldn’t help but think of current events – torture, “Newspeak,” wars, video cameras on every corner, texting and hackers no longer respecting anyone’s privacy. Frank Muller does a fine job narrating the audiobook. The scenes where Winston is being re-educated gave me goose bumps.
