I'm starting tonight with the first story, I think Ginger has started already. I'm not usually too quick so just dive in. Nice to have you here Marie Helene.
Woohoo!!! I'm glad you're both joining us for this Marie Helene and Vickie!!Like I told Melanie, I've been on a Joe Hill kick here recently and I'm glad to finally get to this one!
If you have to take your time with this one or read slow, no worries. I plan to read the short stories slowly with my other reads.
Let's do this! :D
Once again, my hold at the library is 8 weeks. I seem to be able to read some good ones with Todd and Marie through kindle unlimited. I’m still going to read this myself as I have never 😊

Perfect, it's a ghost party! I'm *planning* on finishing this by the end of August, but I have these people at my house who keep interrupting my reading time with their needs like meals, and school pickups and wanting to talk to me ALL THE TIME! ;-P

That sounds fine with me on finishing this in a few weeks. It will work with a BR coming up and a few library books becoming available.
That's what I love about short stories in a book. You can read one at a setting and then not have to pick up the book for a few days.

I might try joining you guys for this but I’m not sure if I’ll have time. I’ll just have to see how this weekend goes. But I have been wanting to read this for a while and actually own a copy just haven’t gotten to it because of other things so this would be a good chance to make that happen.

I plan on reading this one slowly if that helps you on making up your mind on joining. :D
All right, now this is more like it! My kind of creepiness and horror. First story down, looking forward to the rest.😊

I read this years ago, so not doing a buddy read, but just wanted to point out that I thought the story Abraham's Boys was outstanding. Probably my fave in the book.Pardon the intrusion. Continue with buddy read...

I'm looking forward to that one Rob! Glad you liked this collection!

That could be true! In that case (view spoiler)
I thought Pop Art was extremely well written in that it made me feel something, unfortunately that 'something' was just sad :( And I was confused about the Jewish link too, some sort of symbolism maybe? You Will Hear the Locust Sing - Nope. (view spoiler)
There's certainly horrorific elements here but the I've never really enjoyed surrealist writing, maybe the next story will be better.
I actually liked You Will Hear the Locust Sing! It just felt like a crazy creature feature to me. I was definitely disgusted by it and enjoyed that. 🤣😂
Melanie wrote: "I thought Pop Art was extremely well written in that it made me feel something, unfortunately that 'something' was just sad :( And I was confused about the Jewish link too, some sort of symbolism m..."Yeah, I was confused by the Jewish link as well. I thought it was well written as well but definitely not a “horror” or ghost story. I’m confused why it was put in a compilation of ghost/horror stories. 🤷🏼♀️
Melanie wrote: "Abraham's Boys - Bloody hell, [spoilers removed]"Haha!! Yeah, you might not make it if this is the pattern Melanie.
I loved this one by the way. (view spoiler)

Read 'Best New Horror' yesterday night.Well written and I enjoyed the touches of humour.
Would make a great 'Tales from the crypt' episode 😀
OK - Just finished the '20th Century Ghost' story.I loved it. Not creepy but eerie. And Joe Hill is a movie buff too 😀
